1. bring your own wine/beer ... 2. be prepared to climb...you cannot drive up to this hotel if you are unable to do a 20 minute climb, you can take a mule ride Hotel staff will take care of your luggage. 3. The food in the hotel is passable...standard moroccan menu...I was not impressed. 4. Kids may be bored...plan for hikes etc. to keep them busy

Toubkal - love it, hate it

Being the highest mountain in North Africa Toubkal is one of the peakbaggers favourite, so it gets a fair bit of traffic up it's slopes. In the summer it really gets overcrowded, the Neltner hut literally bursting at the seams. Toubkal is known for it's awful scree slopes, however, over the years they are becoming less heartbreaking as trails get more established. If, however, like me you love the snow, then this is the best time to visit the peak. Not only do you avoid those legendary scree slopes, but you get much clearer crisper alpine views all the way up to the top. There are a number of routes up the mountain, the most common being the south col route. 99% of climbers go this route. However, I find that the north col is a better route and by descending by the south col it makes a great - but longer - day out. There is a superb rock ridge - the WSW ridge, Ounoums. It is my favourite route up Toubkal. Toubkal is the most popular peak, however, there are a number of other peaks in the area that are well worth exploring if you have the time, Ouanikrim, Tadat etc. The Tazaghart plateau area also has some fantastic gulleys and ridges that are very accesible from the Lepiney hut.
