There is little point travelling to destinations far from Shanghai by bus; the journey takes longer than the train and is far less comfortable. To destinations near Shanghai, however, journey times and price, though not necessarily comfort, are comparable to the train, thanks to massive amounts of freeway construction in the past several years.
