Surabaya is a visa-free entry point for international arrivals by air; all flights arrive at Juanda International Airport (tel 031/8667642), 18km south of the city, where there's a tourist office. No public bus service connects with the town centre, but there's a rank for fixed-price taxis (Rp12,500). If you arrive by sea, probably by Pelni ferry, you'll dock at Tanjung Perak port in the far north of the city, served by C, P and PAC buses.

Surabaya has three main train stations . Gubeng station is in the east of town with exits on Jalan Gubeng Mesjid and Jalan Sumatera. It has a hotel reservation desk (daily 8am-8pm), but only for expensive places. Kota station is towards the north of the city centre and exits onto the junction of Jalan Semut Kali and Jalan Stasiun, while Pasarturi station is in the west of the city centre on Jalan Semarang.

The main bus terminal is Bungusarih (also known as Purabaya), 6km south of the city. All long-distance and inter-island buses start and finish here, plus many of the city buses and bemos. Local buses into the city leave from the far end of the Bungusarih terminal: follow the signs for "Kota". Many of the C, P and both PAC buses serve Bungusarih. There's also a huge taxi rank here: expect to pay about Rp10,000 to anywhere in town.
