Buses heading to Vientiane and Vang Viang and points south along Route 13 use the Southern Bus Station, 3km south of the centre, best reached by tuk-tuk (2000K). Buses to the capital leave hourly from dawn until just after noon. Tickets are sold at the bus station. Buses to Xainyabouli and Muang Nan pull out of the Pakkhon depot, near the Southern Bus Station (3000K by tuk-tuk). Buses and sawngthaews to Oudomxai, Nong Khiaw and all other points north use the Northern Bus Station, 4km north of town. Almost all north-bound buses depart in the morning, but there's no need to buy your ticket in advance. Tuk-tuks to the station cost around 4000K.
