If you find yourself peckish while visiting Kelly Tarlton's, roller blading along Tamaki Drive or just out for a swim at Mission Bay then head along to one of Mission Bay's cafés; Hammerheads is best saved for a more formal lunch or dinner.

Bar Comida , 81 Tamaki Drive. Quality version of the typical Kiwi cover-all-the-bases café/restaurant/bar with woodfired gourmet pizza, great coffee and cakes, and a strong line in pide , Turkish flatbreads applied to anything from BLT to lahmejan , a lamb, parsley and lemon juice combo from Istanbul. Licensed.

Bluefins , cnr Tamaki Drive & Aitkin Ave (tel 09/528 4551). Classy terracotta-tiled seafood restaurant serving delicious seared scallops, tempura dishes and super-fresh daily specials. Mains around $25. Closed Sun & Mon. Licensed.

Hammerheads , 19 Tamaki Drive, Okahu Bay, by Kelly Tarlton's (tel 09/521 4400). Popular waterfront seafood restaurant that's renowned for painfully slow service. The delectable food is worth the delay, though, and your wait is eased by dynamite cocktails and tremendous views. Licensed.
