Bus travellers making connections between, say, Tamarindo and Sámara sometimes end up having to spend a night in NICOYA , the main settlement of the peninsula. Set in a dip surrounded by low mountains, it's a hot place, but undeniably pretty, with a lovely Parque Central , centring on a preserved white adobe church (earthquake- battered, structurally unstable and currently closed).
