Business hours are generally Monday to Friday 8am-4pm and Saturday 8am-1pm. When a cruise ship is in harbour some tourist shops in St George's will stay open later and on Sundays.

The main public holidays celebrated throughout the Caribbean, during which virtually all shops and offices close, are:

January 1 New Year's Day

Good Friday

Easter Monday

May 1 Labour Day

Whit Monday

Dec 25 Christmas Day

Dec 26 Boxing Day

Grenada also celebrates Independence Day on February 7, Corpus Christi on the ninth Thursday after Easter, Emancipation Days on the first Monday and Tuesday in August and Thanksgiving on October 25.

The biggest event on Grenada's festival calendar is its lively and colourful Carnival , held every year on the second weekend in August. Although Carriacou's Carnival is in early March, the island's main event is the Carriacou Regatta , which takes place in late July/early August and brings boats of all kinds from all over the Caribbean. Petite Martinique also hosts an annual regatta over Easter. Jazz festivals are held on Grenada and Carriacou in May and mid-June respectively.
