Cool Corner Oranjestad tel 599/318-2523. Chinese and West Indian food on offer all day at this popular if unspectacular spot, featuring curries, sweet and sour dishes, fish sandwiches and other staples at US$8-12 a dish. Open daily.

La Maison sur la plage Zeelandia Beach tel 599/318 2256. Excellent restaurant, a ten-minute drive from Oranjestad, offering classy local seafood dishes such as creole snapper, lobster thermidor and an array of meat specialities that might include rack of lamb and beef tenderloin. Expect to pay US$15-25 for a main course. Open daily for lunch and dinner.

Old Gin House Oranjestad tel 599/318-2319. One of the best eating options on the island, with a Belgian chef serving a variety of French and Caribbean-influenced dishes. Lunch is normally served on the patio and features fresh fish as well as lighter meals; dinner at the elegant terrace restaurant normally includes lobster, steaks and curried dishes. A simple lunch will come to around US$12, and a three-course dinner US$30-40. Open daily.

Super Burger Oranjestad tel 599/318-2609. A good place to stop for a quick bite as you explore. Locals pop in and out all day for their sandwiches, chicken, burgers and ice cream. Open daily.
