Nightlife in Charlotte Amalie revolves around bars , particularly on Main Street, with live music and the occasional DJ. The most anticipated (and drunken) event of the year, though, is Carnival (tel 340/776-3112, ) - St Thomas's is one of the oldest and largest celebrations in the Caribbean and really kicks into gear the last two weeks of April. The revels take place all around downtown Charlotte Amalie with elaborate costumed street parades, a dancing till dawn frenzy called J'ouvert, music competitions like the famous Panorama and a final blowout when fireworks light up St Thomas harbour.
