Once you're in the country, Reykjavík's
tourist information centre
has information and brochures for the whole country, with independent tourist information offices in almost every other town, often housed in the bus station. Wherever you are, your accommodation is another good source of local details; for instance, families may have lived on particular farms for generations, and have very thorough knowledge of the region.
