Fifteen kilometres north along the main DN1 from Alba Iulia, through the wine country where white Feteasca and sparkling Spumos are produced, is the small town of TEIUS (Tövis), best known as a rail junction on the main Cluj-Sighisoara line. Few travellers leave the station to make the fifteen-minute walk to the centre, although the town has a pleasant village-like atmosphere and there are several notable old churches that make the effort worthwhile. Most interesting of these is the Roman Catholic church, built for János Hunyadi (Iancu de Hunedoara) in 1449, and rebuilt in 1701-1704 in the same simple Gothic style. It lies in a tranquil location just north of the town centre, signposted left off the road to Stremt and Râmet. Coming from the station, you'll also pass an early seventeenth-century Uniate church, boasting fine Byzantine-style paintings.
