Discover a tranquil world on the banks of a clear mountain stream, hidden amidst the inland slopes of the Great Dividing Range. A registered Wildlife Refuge, home to nearly 200 species of native birds and wildlife, this naturally beautiful environment creates an idyllic hideaway for travellers wishing to experience the magic of the Australian bush.

In an atmosphere of ecological harmony, Kingbilli’s secluded bluestone cottages provide the perfect base from which birdwatchers and wildlife lovers may explore their surroundings. Soaring timber ceilings and soft leather furnishings compliment the stone and slate, whilst open fires and private spas soothe the worn and weary. Floor-to-ceiling windows reveal heavily landscaped gardens, designed with feathered friends in mind.

With separate living/dining room, bedroom(s), bathroom and fully equipped kitchen … each cottage is completely self-contained, and supplied with mountain bikes, tennis racquets and fishing rods. Guests remain private and totally independent … their only interaction being with the King Parrots on the window sill, or a lazy Wombat waddling by the verandah.

In the evening, jacuzzi fans can engage in conversation with a cheeky Brushtail Possum as she scampers by to steal her supper roses from the garden … whilst tennis players may be partnered by some large-footed team-mates, in the form of our resident Kangaroos.

Activities are plentiful … and bush-lovers seeking a memorable experience will enjoy a guided Llama Eco-Trek through ‘Blue Gully’, Kingbilli’s private wildlife sanctuary. Carrying delectable picnics in their saddlebags, gently humming Llamas lead the way through shaded trails to a hill-top spot with breathtaking views across the Cathedral Valley to the Great Dividing Range.

For those preferring to wine and dine in more traditional fashion, there are many delightful coffee shops, restaurants, wineries and country pubs closeby. Fishermen are catered for also, although some may have their sport interrupted by a Platypus paddling past ... whilst guests seeking to explore the local area will find horseriding, golf, ballooning, skiing and rock-climbing within easy reach of the property.

Some may find it takes more than a few days for the slow, seamless pace of country life to impose itself upon their psyche. Others might simply let the solitude and beauty of the landscape overtake them, sitting to meditate on the rustlings of leaves in the cool evening breeze ... or the filament-like reflections of trees and rushes on the still surface of a dam.

In these moments, the memory of constant motion in the outside world disappears.

Property amenities:
The uniquely designed two-storied Honeymoon Cottage features a romantic loft-style bedroom opening onto a spacious, private balcony with panoramic views across the valley to Cathedral Mountain and the Blue Range. Old-fashioned casement windows, a country-style kitchen and soft leather furnishings compliment the stone and slate, there’s a large stone fireplace ... and to ease the worn and weary … in the bathroom is a deep luxurious twin spa bath.

Shaded beside a gently flowing creek is Ballards Hideaway. From its rooms, lit softly by delicate leadlight windows and warmed by a brass-canopied open fire, French doors open onto a long, low rose-covered verandah, perfect for lazy lunches or summer evening barbeques. Paved steps lead to a trellised creekside summer house and in a leafy garden corner a hot jacuzzi bubbles. In the evening, jacuzzi fans can engage in conversation with a cheeky Brushtail Possum as she scampers by to steal her supper roses from the Ballards garden.

The true hermit, seeking greater isolation, may prefer the Studio. Tucked at the foot of the hills beneath a canopy of eucalypts and hidden by a profusion of native plants, this building has its own walk-bridge, fernpool, waterfall, heated garden jacuzzi and private island gazebo. Travellers choosing to holiday with friends will find the Studio also has the option of a second bedroom ... with 3 single beds - making it ideal for families or a group of 4-5.

Visitors to the Studio are privileged to have as their nearest neighbour that most timid of all Australian mammals, the platypus. A family of these extraordinary little creatures has its home in the bank of the Studio’s creek ... but only a quiet and patient observer will be rewarded with an introduction.

Nearby attractions and activities:
Known locally as the Mystic Mountains, the Cathedral Valley is possibly one of Victoria's best kept secrets. Just 90min NE of Melbourne, this is a bushwalker's paradise with its waterfalls, fern-gullies, lyrebirds & amazing wildlife. Abseiling, hot-air ballooning, white-water rafting, horseriding, skiing & golf are just some of the activities available. Less active folk can while away the time exploring the picturesque Marysville township with its craft shops & restaurants … or travel a little further to the Yarra Valley wineries. The perfect destination for 2 or 3 days ... or 4 ... or more ...

Policy:
Families welcome...!

Kingbilli is a place where children can be children, and weary parents may relax with a sense of peace and security. Our secluded bluestone cottages are fully self-contained, providing the perfect base from which families may do as much or as little as they please.

Exploring the joys of independence and imagination in a safe environment, adventurous youngsters may roam freely, guaranteed to encounter only furred and feathered individuals, from the curious to the captivating. Wandering our farmland, children will find llamas and other domestic animals eager to be friends … whilst forays into our hillcountry will reveal an enchanting array of native wildlife awaiting discovery.

Llama Eco-Treks offer a memorable experience for the whole family. Carrying delectable picnics in their saddlebags, Llamas lead the way through the shaded trails of Blue Gully, our private wildlife sanctuary, whilst an experienced guide interprets sights and sounds encountered along the way.

Youngsters with a thirst for knowledge will revel in our Pouch Professors program, an outdoor eco-education activity just for juniors. Meanwhile, temporarily liberated parents may explore more adult local attractions, including restaurants, wineries, craftshops and galleries … or simply relax by the fire or in a bubbling jacuzzi, enjoying a glass of wine and the simple sounds of the bush.
