The McKay House is a romantic Bed and Breakfast in the "Quality Hill" section of the National Historic District of Jefferson, Texas a historic, heritage town with more than 50 B&Bs hidden in the "Piney Woods" of Northeast Texas. For a romantic getaway, the popular 1851 McKay House Bed & Breakfast Inn provides guests with luxury lodging and is within a short stroll of fine dining, antiques, shopping, carriage and riverboat rides in Jefferson’s historic downtown area. Offering luxury accommodations, McKay House is famous: for its "Gentleman’s Breakfast", for hospitality and elegance, for Victorian nightgowns, for fine historic restoration, and, for five-star services that help you enjoy a relaxing, romantic stay. The Inn has seven fireplaces, including one in the Garden Conservatory.

Lady Bird Johnson Room: Original master bedchamber and the favorite of Lady Bird Johnson. The 1860 four-poster canopy bed is majestic under 14-foot ceiling. Enjoy romantic sitting area, browse the library, select a book and relax by the original coal-burning fireplace. Documents from the notorious 1870’s "Diamond Bessie" murder trial (Capt. Hector McKay, defense attorney) are displayed. Soak in the claw-footed bath tub then peruse some of the historic books in your private library.

Prices:
- Weekends: $119
- Weekdays: $89.

Quilt Room: This classic bed chamber, with its 14-ft. ceiling, features a king size half canopy bed. Spinning Room: The Spinning Room is furnished with an extravagant, matched bedroom set: a "half-teaster" canopy bed (queen size), a break-down amoire, plus marble-topped dresser and wash stand -- all purchased off Canal Street in New Orleans about 1880. You will be "inspired to greatness" by the rich ambience of the bedchamber, with its sitting area and original coal-burning fireplace. The bathroom (with glass-enclosed shower) provides a private repose.

Garden Gable Suite: This upstairs "gable suite" is a romantic adventure. You can enjoy moonlit evenings on the balcony, overlooking the garden. Morning sunrays sparkling through the priceless stained glass window in the "writers alcove" may inspire you to compose a poem for your sweetheart. Soft moonbeams peeking through large stained glass skylight over the twin "his and her" antique bathtubs mean romance is sure to bloom. Sleep like a lullaby on the comfortable queen-sized Eastlake Victorian bed. Then, next morning awaken to the aroma of fresh brewed coffee wafting up the spindled staircase. This luxury suite is both romantic and elegant expecially if you believe in and practice "mixed bathing." Guests enjoy looking for the love birds (only one pair) in the documented wallpaper.

- Weekdays: $99.

Grand Gable Suite: Largest and grandest of the upstairs "gable suites," with features a rare 1890 tall pine bed, queen size and flanking wall sconces for bedtime reading. A step-down sitting area, defined by antique railing and curley pine wainscot, is an intimate retreat for quiet reading and social intercourse. Large bath, complemented with stained glass windows, has a glass-enclosed shower and antique marble wash stand. Balcony overlooking the garden is perfect for quiet, romantic interludes.

Aunt Pearl's Room: Walking through the English style "cottage garden" evokes memories of more genteel times. In Aunt Pearl’s Room you will recognize comforts and amenities that the original owner would have reserved for special guests. The decor is Victorian, with "cottage rose" wallpaper, a comfortable sitting area by the fireplace. Queen size, solid oak 1890s bed with private bath and step-in shower. Rustic Keeping Room: This bedchamber is rustic, outfitted with period kitchen pieces. The king size oak sleigh bed is a treat. Like days of yore, the large claw footed tub is within the room. You will find the "necessary facilities" in the "in-house" privy. This bedchamber is one-of-a-kind. Wood-burning fireplace to delight winter guests.
