French Creek Ranch is a beautiful bed and breakfast ranch offering sophisticated, yet comfortable, western hospitality year-round in the heart of the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Located just 1.5 miles from Custer State Park and 2.1 miles east of the city of Custer, French Creek Ranch offers quiet seclusion yet easy access to the many wonders of the Black Hills. The ranch sits in a high mountain meadow with French Creek running through it overlooking the awesome views of the nearby Needles formation.
French Creek Ranch is adjacent to the Black Hills National Forest, allowing hikers, bicyclists or horse riders easy access to the Forest’s thousands of acres. And by traveling just a short distance, guests can access beautiful mountain biking trails, the Mickelson Trail, the Centennial Trail or any of the other well-marked trails running through the Black Hills.
Other nearby attractions include the Crazy Horse Memorial, Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, and of course, Mount Rushmore.
THE ROOMS
You won’t find Victorian lace and ruffles at French Creek Ranch. What you will find is Western and Native American artwork, refined but rustic ranch furnishings, and privacy. The guest accommodations include more than 2,000 square feet of total privacy: three large bedrooms, each with a queen bed and private bath. All rooms $65 to $145 a night.
The Cowboy Room: Our most popular room. Rustic Western themed, with queen-size lodge-pole bed, private bath just across the hall, large walk-in closet, and a beautiful view of nearby Needles.
The Cowgirl Room: Southwestern themed, queen bed, private bath, walk-in closet, and a gorgeous view of the Hills.
The Lakota Room: American Indian themed room with queen bed, private bath, double closet and a garden view.

Come hungry. A full breakfast, ranging from traditional ranch breakfasts to innovative Southwestern entrees, is served every morning at 8 a.m. in the Ranch’s main dining room.

French Creek Ranch is nestled amidst some of the most beautiful horse trails in the Black Hills. Whether you want to ride among the buffalo in Custer State Park, tackle the winding climb to Harney Peak, or ride up to the shadows of Mount Rushmore, horse riding in the Southern Black Hills offers nearly endless opportunities. We’re familiar with most of the area trails and can help you choose where to start.
If you don’t plan to bring your own horse but still want to ride in the Hills, we can make arrangements with a local outfitter. Dakota Badland Outfitters can take you into the surrounding Hills. Or, if you have your own horse and want an experienced guide, one can be arranged, depending on availability.

French Creek Ranch’s horse stabling is nearly as nice as our human accommodations. The Ranch has eight large barn box stalls, outdoor runs, and six fenced corrals. Feed, bedding, tack and other services are available. Horses may be boarded for an additional fee. Stabling is not included with Bed & Breakfast rates.

We can help take care of almost any of your horse’s needs that may arise. A farrier can be arranged to repair any hoof problems. Our local veterinarian is also available for emergencies. A feed store is located in town.
