Under-developed area that typifies Russian countryside. Easy access to Moscow, St. Petersburg, and the Baltic states, which makes it ideal for rural tourism. Good environmental situation, no major industry. The City of Staritsa managed to preserve its historic character.

Car ride from Moscow to Staritsa can be arranged. Car upkeep contribution for the 250 km ride from Moscow to Staritsa: $70-100. Staritsa is accessible by bus from Moscow and almost direct train from St. Petersburg.

and an ancient village of Gorodnya, with a beautiful 16th Century cathedral and a spectacular view of the Volga river.

Day 3 - Staritsa
Is famous for its ancient convents and caves on the hight left bank of the Volga river.

Day 4 and 5 -
We'll travel through Torzhok and Ostashkov to the origins of the Volga river.

Day 6 - Pskov and Novgorod
These two cities occupy a special place in Russian history.

Day 7 and 8 - St. Petersburg
Spend a day or two in this most European of Russian cities before heading back to Moscow on a comfortable overnight or high-speed train.

Day 9 and 10 - Moscow
By this time you've seen enough of Russia to see Moscow from a new perspective, as a focal point of a huge country entering a new era.
