Grasshopper Cottage is located on the shore of Lough Corrib, close to the village of Corr na Móna, 60 km (37 miles) from Galway city. The Cottage, with superb lake and moutain views, is 50 meters from the water’s edge and is situated in an area of peaceful, natural beauty with hedgerows of wild flowers, fuchsias and rhododendrons.
Lough Corrib, is Ireland’s largest wild brown trout fishery, and at Grasshopper Cottage we specialise in fly fishing for trout. Proprietors have been welcoming anglers to their home for many years and, being anglers themselves, are familiar with the needs of the game fisher. Warm welcome, central heating and turf fires, peaceful location, hedgerows full of wildflowers, home cooking.

* Walking - There are walks in the area to suit all levels of experience. Choose from a ramble to Innisdoorus, a stroll in the forests around Clonbur or Cong, climb Mt. Gable for fantastic views in all directions or head for the Joyce Country or Maumturk mountains. Further afield there are the Twelve Bens, the Sheffrys, Croagh Patrick and Nephin.
* Golf - 18 hole courses at Ballinrobe, Oughterard, Ballyconneely, Westport. 9 hole course in Cong + mini-golf.
* Horse Riding - Horse riding is available in Cong, at the Ashford Equestrian Centre, close to the village and Ashford Castle Hotel. Ride through the wooded countryside between the shores of Lough Corrib and Lough Mask. Horse racing takes place in Ballinrobe and Galway.
* Boat trips - Visit the island of Inchagoill, largest island on Lough Corrib. Cruise Killary Harbour, Ireland's only fjord. Travel to the offshore islands of Inisboffin, Aran Islands, Clare Island and experience their wild beauty.
* Archeology - Many sites to view in the area including 5th century monastic ruins, Ross Abbey,Cillin (children's burial grounds).
* Cycling - Off the main routes, the roads are quiet and you can cycle through a variety of landscapes. Travel the ’Joyce Country Drive’ via Clonbur past Lough Mask to Finny and then beside Lough Nafooey and up over the hill and down into the Maam valley.
* Canoeing, Orienteering, Windsurfing - All are available at Petersburg Outdoor Education Centre, 2.5km at Clonbur.
* Visit Connemara - Kylemore Abbey and Gardens, Connemara National Park. Spend a day on one of the many sandy beaches dotted around the west coast.
*Shopping in Galway city or the towns of Clifden and Westport.
Location:
From Galway city take N84 to Headford, then R334 to Cross. Turn left to Cong R345 and continue through to Corr na Móna. Cross the bridge and take first left beside the pub, Tí Mháille.
