Gliffaes occupies a commanding position above the River Usk in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park, midway between the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains in South Wales. Situated in its own well established 35 acres of gardens and mature woodland well over a mile and a half from the main road, this Victorian country house with its 22 individual bedrooms has all the style and comfort that goes into a true ’Country House’, making Gliffaes the perfect hotel for exploring this part of South Wales or walking in the Brecon Beacons. The house was originally built in 1885 but has been run as a hotel by the same family since 1948. The hotel is located near the unspoilt village of Crickhowell, midway between Brecon and Abergavenny and prides itself on friendliness and good food without too much pretension. Gliffaes is graded as a 3 star hotel by the Wales Tourist Board.

FISHING - The Gliffaes fishing on the Usk is divided into two stretches. The house itself overlooks one mile of left bank water, while two and a quarter miles further upstream is another three quarters of a mile including both banks known as Llandetty. Wading is essential on all our water and we recommend chest waders as the most effective way of fishing the multitude of runs. The Gliffaes beats include every type of water from flats to exciting little runs formed by rapids. There are seven beats, allocated daily on a rotation system, no more than two rods per beat.

Property amenities:
Gliffaes has 22 bedrooms, all are individually decorated and furnished and all have private bathrooms, a number of which are twin bedded. The rooms are priced according to size and view, the best rooms all have spectacular views across the Usk valley, while the others all look over our magnificent grounds. Silence is something we have an abundance of and you will hear nothing but the birds and the river from your room. We do not have family rooms as such but we are able to put camp beds in a small number of our larger rooms. All the rooms are equipped for baby listening via the telephone system. Most of the large doubles have a DVD player and we have a portable DVD player which can be brought into other rooms. The hotel has a small collection of around 30 films.

The hotel has 2.5 miles of prime wild brown trout and salmon fishing on the River Usk and has access to much more fishing on the Usk and on the neighbouring Wye. Ghillies or guides can be arranged.
