A loon calls out across the lake, you walk down to the shoreline as the morning mist is rising off the surface of the water and down in a cove a moose is feeding in the shallows. Think your dreaming? This could be a reality here at Loon Lodge in the Allagash. The Allagash is one of the last remote wildernesses left in the east. A place where the deer, moose, bears, loons and bald eagles call home. Allagash is a region rich in logging lore, where logs were once cut with axes and flowed in great log drives down the isolated streams and rivers of the area. Fishing at Loon Lodge is a unique experience. We are located at the headwaters of three famous watersheds, the Allagash, St. John, and Penobscot Rivers all begin right here. From our dock there is over 5000 acres of water to fish and explore without ever getting out of you boat.
Property amenities:
In keeping with the tradition of the Allagash our cabins are kept rustic yet very homey and comfortable. Our log lodge and guest cabins were all hand made on site with a combination of logs and rough sawn boards. The interiors are done up in knotty pine floors and walls, with braided throw rugs and hand made log and pine board furniture. Each cabin has an animal theme and is decorated to fit that theme. Our cabins have colorful names like the "Bear’s Den", "Fishing Hole", "Deer Yard", "Trapper" and "The Moose Crossing".
The cabins are equipped with kitchens for housekeeping and have propane stoves, sinks, and all the pots, pans and utensils that you will need. Refrigeration comes from the ice that we provide for you. All of the cabins have an electrical receptacle in them and an electric light. Our cabins come with bed linens and blankets but you may want to bring along your favorite blanket and/or sleeping bag. Although the cabins do not have running water, we have a central shower house with separate men’s and women’s rooms. Each room has hot showers, flush toilets and sinks with electrical outlets for hair dryers and electric shavers. We do not provide towels you must bring your own.
Many choose to have their meals provided for them in the rustic atmosphere of our log lodge. We offer packages that include just suppers or all your meals or you can choose to provide your own meals in the privacy of your cabin. All of our cabins have a view of the lake and access to the lake from their cabins. All of our packages include the use of our rowboats, canoes and kayaks. Guests can enjoy swimming off the wharf or out to our floating dock.
Nearby attractions and activities:
A place without stress, phones, and the hectic life of the big city. A place where the call of the loon, rustle of a brook, or the wind whistling through the pines, replace the ringing phone, the traffic on the street, or the neighbors barking. A place where the toughest decision you might have to make is which sunset was the prettiest. Family Vacations at Loon Lodge includes hiking, canoeing, kayaking, or just plain relaxing. We have short day hikes to interesting destinations. The canoe enthusiast will find many miles of water to explore. Wildlife abounds in the area and every one from the bird watcher to wildlife photographer will have plenty to see.
