Nestled under an ancient ebony grove in Zambia on the banks of the Luangwa River overlooking the Wafwa Oxbow Lagoon lays this intimate owner-run lodge, catering for just five couples at any one time. The Lodge’s gentle but exquisite décor fuses vibrant earth tones and raw materials. Palm stalks, indigenous timber, thatch and red earthen plaster create a strikingly elegant yet warm atmosphere.
An unhurried environment to reflect and unwind providing a continuous link with nature and the natural flow of Africa’s endless wide open spaces. The lodge is unique with its décor (all locally crafted and hand-made) and great attention to detail has made Luangwa River Lodge quite like nothing else currently in South Luangwa or Zambia. The lodge is elevated between 1-3 metres on wooden decks affording great views to the park and river.
The swimming pool is sunk into the deck on two levels with a waterfall adjoining the two pools (one for swimming and the other for seating). Seating areas are all elevated and open plan with a bar area as well as a dining and reading area. Our five brick and thatch Bush Suites are individually named and all feature unique decorative themes. accommodate double or twin beds. Hot and cold running water, twin sinks, shower, sunken baths (large enough for two people).
Overhead fans in both the bedroom and bathroom. Walk in mosquito nets as well as a sealed mosquito proof room (as long as the doors are kept shut!) Large free-standing fans inside the mosquito nets. All Bush Suites have 240v plug sockets and hairdryers (we also have 110v converters). Wardrobe and vanity table with rechargeable electric lanterns, candles and matches provided. All suites have private decks with covered Bomas affording great views over the river and park. Both the bedroom and bathroom have large folding doors leading to the outside deck.
Food at the lodge is a fusion of Modern European and African and (on request) most dishes can be catered for.
