Welcome to Canada’s Premier Smallmouth Bass Fishing Lodge. For over fifty years Pine Island Lodge has hosted discriminating anglers from the world over. The lodge and fishery have withstood the test of time. Unlike many waters, the Winnipeg River, because of the immense amount of structure and timely conservation program, continues to be one of Canada’s premier fisheries.
Beautifully situated at the remote northern boundary of Manitoba’s Whiteshell Forest, Pine Island Lodge is nestled among the spruce, birch and pine of a 17 acre island in the Winnipeg River. Though the lodge is remote it is convenient to Winnipeg, the capital of Manitoba and a major transportation center.
The Winnipeg is a steady producer of trophy fish. Walleye, northern pike and smallmouth bass receive the most attention. However, the Winnipeg has rock bass, yellow perch, goldeye, whitefish and lake sturgeon in excess of 100 pounds. Besides the fishing in the Winnipeg River we also fish Crowduck Lake, for world class Walleye action (via portage or fly-in) and two trophy Bass lakes (via fly-in).
Property amenities:
Facilities at Pine Island are a government approved 4 & 5 star accommodation rating. Fully modern individual guest cabins accommodate from 2 to 8 guests. All of our guest cabins are fully modern with all the conveniences you would expect, as well as single and twin beds to insure a great night’s sleep, in the privacy of your own bedroom. Each morning, before breakfast, a staff member delivers coffee or hot chocolate to your cabin and each evening after fishing a bucket of ice for refreshment hour.
Mealtimes are special at Pine Island - Canadian home style cooking at its very best. Breakfast and supper are served in the main lodge by our cheerful, courteous staff. Delicious entrees of prime rib, roast turkey, chicken and baby back-ribs are complimented by homemade pastries, fresh baked bread and rolls. At midday your guide will prepare you a delectable shorelunch from your morning’s catch.
Our fishing boats range from 16-19 ft. aluminum Lunds and other manufacturers, powered by 25-90 hp outboards. Each boat is equipped with swivel back rests, life vests, and all gear for a successful day’s fishing, complete with a pro guide for each two guests. We are very proud of our staff of pro-guides who are some of the very best in all of Canada. Many have done very well in numerous tournaments around the mid-west.
Nearby attractions and activities:
The Winnipeg River is not what most anglers imagine when they think of a "river". The Winnipeg has huge lake-like areas with large bays studded with spruce and birch covered islands, rocky reefs that border immense weed beds, submerged gravel bars that stairstep from 8 ft. to 100 ft. of water, and coves and inlets fringed with lily pads and wild rice. You can fish gently sloping sand bars to sheer granite cliffs.
The Winnipeg flows around dozens of beatiful tree-filled islands that harbour quiet back bays and deep dark runs where you find fish even in the hottest weather. An angler can fish virtually any type of water imaginable as there are miles and miles of fish holding structure to explore. Yet long boat rides aren’t necessary to find fish; you can literally catch them from the doorstep of your cabin. Wind is not a problem at Pine Island. The numerous islands, protected bays, and inlets mean you don’t miss valuable fishing days because of weather.
