M11918 is one of the only malaria free, Big 5 private reserves in South Africa. The first Game Reserve established in the Eastern Cape is setting the pace in conservation, this 20 000 hectare Reserve is steeped in settler history and dates back to the times when game roamed free.
Relocation of indigenous species to the malaria free region has gradually taken place over ten years. Lion, cheetah, leopard, brown hyena, black backed jackal, bat eared foxes, elephant, black and white rhino, disease-free buffalo, hippo, giraffe, zebra, black wildebees, 18 antelope species and many other animal species can be viewed roaming wild at Shamwari. Bird life is correspondingly varied, with well over 300 species reported. The re-introduction of the first Wild Dog that roamed the area more than 200 years ago in June 2003 was of profound significance.
M11918 stretches along the Bushman's River and is 72km from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. It forms a natural extension to the Garden Route and is the closest private game reserve in the country to a national airport.
Accommodation is offered in six separate luxury lodges. Long Lee Manor, offerings a distinctive Colonial experience. Bushmans River Lodge is a unique historical site with its 4 suites decorated in an artistic African theme. Riverdene Lodge is a restored settler's lodge with 9 suites, all en-suite with air-conditioning, Satellite TV, telephone and small lounge area. The ethnically decorated Lobengula Lodge with its thatched roofs is tucked deep in the valley bushveld. It offers 12 guests a tranquil, luxurious and exclusive getaway as well as a wellness centre. Bayethe Lodge is a 5-star, luxury lodge comprising of 9-tented suites. A magnificent bushveld-type lodge made of stonewalls and thatch, accommodates the lounge, dining room, an outdoor banquet boma, swimming pool and viewing deck overlooking the Buffalo River, a tributary to the great Bushmans River. Shamwari’s newest lodge, the magnificent stone and thatch Eagles Crag, with its own wellness centre opened in October 2002. There are nine detached suites, each with private deck and plunge pool. The lodge has dining deck, outdoor boma area and large lounge. All suites have spacious bathrooms with two vanity basins, separate indoor and outdoor showers.
M11918’s highly trained game rangers conduct morning and evening game drives where amongst other things current research and conservation projects will be introduced. The Reserve is home to the Born Free Foundation Centre providing a sanctuary for big cats that have been rescued from captive conditions and are rehabilitated for future possible release. The Reserve has a complete wildlife research team as well as it’s own anti-poaching unit.

Children:
Children under the age of 12 by arrangement. Regret no children at Lobengula Lodge/Bushmans River Lodge. Less than 3 years must share with parents, no charge and are not allowed on game drives. Aged 7 and less than 12 years sharing with parents, or own room, 50% of fee, this including game drives. Children under seven years are not allowed on game drives.

Full pre-payment required 30 days prior to arrival. 25% of fee if cancelled less than 30 days prior to arrival. 50% of fee if cancelled less than 14 days prior to arrival. 100% of fee if cancelled less than 7 days prior to arrival.
Group Booking Policy:
This policy applies to bookings of 10 or more people.
A minimum of a 2 night stay applies throughout the year.
A 50% non-refundable deposit is payable 90 days prior to arrival.
