This is the only rental property on the farm and is Bord Failte (Irish Tourist Board) approved. It was the original home of the McDonald family for generations. The Chestnut Cottage has been lovingly restored, keeping as much as possible of the ’Old World’ character of the cottage while adding all the modern comforts. It is located close to the main farmhouse, in a nice farm garden with an orchard.
The Chestnut Cottage is in the Galway/Offaly area, three miles from the popular riverside town of Banagher. The wide bridge which crosses the River Shannon to County Galway opens the way to tour the west of Ireland. Banagher is famous for its Irish music pubs, its river cruises, Bog walks and rail tours, great Fishing, (both coarse and salmon and trout.), Excellent super markets and shops, Restaurants, and Hotels. Most of the pubs serve really good food also.
Flowing through Lusmagh and Banagher the River Shannon is the major waterway in Ireland. The Little Brosna joins the Shannon at Lusmagh and the Grand Canal joins the Shannon just up stream at Shannon Harbour as also does the Brosna River. All these water ways provide unbeatable angling. There are great stocks of fish including salmon, trout, bream, tench and perch in abundance. The area boasts excellent fishing access and facilities, bait shops and outboard boat hire.

HEATING: There is oil fired central heating which can be supplemented with solid fuel and electric heaters if desired. Likewise, the water can be heated by the oil, electric, or the solid fuel or a combination of all three.
THE KITCHEN is well equipped with electric cooker, washing machine, fridge, microwave, iron, toaster, and coffee maker, Tea towels and washing-up cloths are provided.
THE LIVING ROOM has an Aga type solid fuel range (peat turf is supplied free) There is a colour TV and dining and sitting area.
THE BEDROOMS are two double rooms and two single rooms. Two of the double bedrooms can convert to twin rooms. If you prefer a smaller cottage with only one bedroom two of the bedrooms can be closed off.
BATHROOMS: There are two showers and two wcs, one of which adjoins two of the bedrooms.
OTHER FACILITIES:
* For children The cottage contains a cot and high chair and there is a swing on the chestnut tree for the children.
* There is a barbeque area at the rear of the cottage in the orchard.
* For the fisherman there is a lock up tackle shed with fridge-freezer for bait and equipment storage. The rail over the solid fuel cooker is ideal for drying wet fishing gear also there is some drying facilities in the tackle shed. Boat hire locally also bait and tackle.
* You can have your fire lighted before you return from your days outing on request.
* A kennel is provided for pets.

BANAGHER: This town welcomes visitors. The variety of different pubs means you can enjoy a quiet drink or follow the sound of singing and traditional music which can be heard on the street to a lively pub session. On a warm night listen to the distinctive sound of the corncrake on Banagher Bridge or go on a Corncrake Evening organized by Birdwatch Ireland during the summer.
BOG RAIL TOUR: Clonmacnoise and West Offaly Railway gives you the opportunity to enjoy a guided 5.5 circular train-ride through a raised bog- the Blackwater Bog Don’t miss it!
ANCIENT MONASTIC SITE: Clonmacnoise was founded in 545AD by St Ciaran. The monastic ruins consist of a cathedral, two round towers, 8 churches and 3 high crosses. There is also the remains of a 13th century castle. There is a modern interpretive centre and tourist office on the site. Birr Castle Demesne:Features Irelands Historic Science Centre. In the Grounds is the Great Telescope built by the Earl of Rosse in the 1840’s and the most wonderful gardens you will want to visit.
LUSMAGH PET FARM: This ever popular farm boasts a large variety of farm animals as well as a nature trail, farm machinery, breeding ostriches and a coffee shop.
CRUISES ON THE RIVER SHANNON:’ The Shannon Queen’ sails on the Shannon twice weekly in the Summer.
BIRR EQUESTRIAN CENTRE: Trek on boglands and forest trails with wonderful views of the Slieve Bloom Mountain, Programs tailored to individuals needs.

Policy:
* A deposit of €100 would be appreciated when booking and the balance when you arrive at the Chestnut Cottage.
* The cottage is rented at weely rateeof 255euro-300euro per weekand accommodates up to five people at this price.
* You will be welcome at whatever time you arrive at the cottage. But remember to allow time for the cottage to be prepared and ready for you. Usually 3 or 4 pm would be ideal.
* The keys can be collected anytime suitable to you.
