Property amenities:
Privacy is guaranteed when you stay in one of the seven luxurious detached cottages each with their own private facilities and covered balcony that overlook the banks of the Maruia River. Choose from two styles of cottage suite - the Deluxe or the Grand Deluxe.
Deluxe Cottage - The Deluxe cottage is a spacious junior suite with en-suite marble bathroom which has a double vanity and shower. Our Guests describe them as, a cosy home away from home with beautiful soft greens and golds that compliment the river and native plants we see from our balcony. The large desk is ideal for writing letters, sorting your travel plans or laying out all those fishing flies and paraphernalia!
Grand Deluxe Cottage - The Grand Deluxe cottage suite is a large suite with a separate sitting room, separate bedroom and a large walk-in luggage/dressing room. Similar in design to the Deluxe cottage the colour scheme is sympathetic to our beautiful wilderness environment. The Grand Deluxe bathroom has a wonderful double hydro-therapy spa bath to relax in, separate shower, double vanity and separate w.c. Two of our cottages are Grand Deluxe.
Our cottage suites have everything you need to enjoy your stay including; the quietest air conditioning to keep you cool on those hot summer nights, mini-bar, fresh fruit, tea and coffee-making facilities, bath robes, hairdryers, CD player and direct-dial telephone. Every last detail has been considered, right down to sourcing the most comfortable of beds (Super-king size Sealy Posturepeadic). The bathrooms can only be described as sheer luxury being marble clad with under-floor heating. And of course, each cottage has a stunning view of the river.
Nearby attractions and activities:
Maruia Falls - Just 5 minutes drive away; down river from the Lodge are the spectacular Maruia Falls.
Buller Gorge Swingbridge - New Zealand's Longest Swingbridge! 15 minutes drive from the Lodge, enjoy the challenge of walking over New Zealand's longest Swingbridge high above the rushing waters of the Buller River and cross back on the flying fox, Comet Line! Check out an old Gold Miner's cottage and try your hand at Gold Panning.
Murchison - a Great Outdoors Paradise - The Murchison district is dominated by rugged escarpments, bush clad ranges and offers beautiful unspoiled lakes, sparkling streams, fast flowing rivers with awe-inspiring rapids and waterfalls between tranquil stretches of water. These spectacular vistas and varied activities make Murchison a singular Great Outdoors paradise for people of all age groups.
Reefton - The Town of Light - Famous for being the first place in Australasia to generate and reticulate its own electricity in 1888, Reefton was born on gold in the late 1860s. Today, both coal mining and gold mining are still important to this vibrant little township that sits on the banks of the Inangahua River. Visit the Bearded Mining Company Miners' Hut based in the centre of Reefton and meet Gavin, Peter, Mark and Geoffrey who will fill you in on all the local history.
Punakaiki (The Pancake Rocks) - Seeing the Pancake rocks really is an experience not to be missed, especially if the tide is in and the blowholes are spouting. The sub-tropical, Wild West coastline is a memorable sight. The walk around the rocks has been beautifully prepared with some good cafes to stop for lunch or coffee. The rocks are about 1.75 hours drive from the Lodge and should be incorporated in your itinerary if driving to or from the West Coast when staying at the Lodge, or make them a great day out if you are not including the West Coast in your itinerary.
Cape Foulwind - Just outside Westport on the West Coast - a stunning cliff top walk to the Cape Foulwind lighthouse takes you past a seal colony where you can watch the Seals with their pups frolicking on the rocks and experience the rugged beauty of the West Coast. About 1.5 hours drive from the Lodge through the Buller Gorge. For a magic day out from the Lodge, take a picnic and see Cape Foulwind and Punakaiki Rocks.
