Welcome to the Bitterroot Riverhouse. This extraordinary hand-hewn log cabin is located at the southern end of the scenic Bitterroot Valley in western Montana. The Lodge can comfortably accommodate couples, families, or groups up to 8, and we gladly welcome any fishing, hunting, or skiing groups. The famous Bitterroot River flows through this valley, providing unsurpassed fly fishing as well as habitat for elk, deer and moose. This retreat in the "high country" of Montana boasts granite outcroppings, large ponderosa pine trees, and breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains. The cabin is near the Bitterroot National Forest and the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness Area, some of the finest hunting and fishing in Montana.
Property amenities:
Welcome to the Bitterroot Riverhouse. This modern log cabin, built in 1992, is situated on the banks of the headwaters of the West Fork of the Bitterroot River, just a mile below Painted Rocks Lake. The great room has a gas furnace to keep you warm as you relax watching satellite TV for those that just can’t live without it! There are 3 bedrooms; one with a king bed, another with a queen bed, and the third bedroom has 2 twin beds and a futon. Bitterroot Riverhouse accommodates up to 8 guests. 3 separate full bathrooms, each with showers are available for your convenience.
The spacious open kitchen overlooks the great room and has all the conveniences of home including a gas range, oven, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, etc., and is completely outfitted with all the necessary cookware and utensils. The mudroom is equipped with a washer and dryer to clean clothes after a hard day hiking, hunting or fishing.
In addition to all that, there is a huge outdoor balcony facing the river, with a 6 person Jacuzzi, to let you enjoy listening to the night sounds of the Bitterroot River. The deck wraps around the cabin and allows you to enjoy barbecuing, relaxing in the hot tub or hammock, and fishing all at the same time (if you so desire). Beyond that, look to the gorgeous view of the mountains from which the Bitterroot flows.
Nearby attractions and activities:
The Bitterroot Riverhouse and surrounding area offer a wide variety of things to see and do:
* Beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife-moose, elk, deer, eagles, waterfowl, songbirds, and more-for viewing & photography.
* Over 1600 miles of hiking trails-easy to difficult-in the Bitterroot National Forest surrounding the cabin. Trapper Peak is the highest peak in the Bitterroot Mountain Range, rising to 10,157 feet above sea level at the summit. A hiking trail takes adventurous climbers to the peak, where they may enter their names in a record book. The climb is steep and the top of the mountain carries a residual cap of snow year-round. Makes a great day hike.
* Excellent trout fishing from your front door and throughout the area.

* Horseback trail riding with local guides.
* White-water rafting trips on the Salmon and Bitterroot rivers with local guides.

*The 1,300 acre Teller Wildlife Refuge, nestled between Corvallis and the Bitterroot River, was established by conservationist/philanthropist Otto Teller. The historic Slack homestead, which was built in the 1860s, is a part of the refuge and is used for many of the activities there, which include wine tasting, harvest festivals, plow days featuring teams of horses and mules and antique farm machinery.
