Our Clayoquot (pronounced Klak-wit) Sound adventure is designed as a point-to-point expedition, not as a loop trip. By utilizing a water taxi on the last day of our adventure, we have the advantage of traveling to more remote locations with each passing day. Every day we will set up camp on a new, secluded sandy beach, that stretches as far as the eye can see. As you relax around a crackling campfire reflecting on the days kayaking, our guides will be busy preparing a feast of mouth-watering cuisine. After the day culminates in a remarkable west coast sunset, you will drift off into restful slumber as the sound of crashing waves resonate in the background.

Our first night will be spent utilizing the Vargas Island Inn as our camp. From there we will plot a course to Meares Island; realm of some of the largest ancient Cedar trees in the world. As your guides take you on an interpretive walk through the Big Tree Trail, you will be in awe of the sheer mass of these giant trees. Clayoquot is also known the world over for its summer population of resident Grey Whales. These leviathans of the deep take part in an annual 11,000-mile migration that brings them into the sound in early spring and sees them depart in the fall, making for superior viewing opportunities throughout the summer.

To bring this expedition to a close, we save the best for last. What could possibly be better than relaxing in the mineral rich pools of Hot Springs Cove to sooth the muscles? Our last night will be spent here with ample time to explore the island or just soak in the hot springs. After a hearty breakfast we will board our water taxi for transport back to the friendly west coast community of Tofino.

Your Itinerary

Day 1: This trip begins from Duncan at 6:00 am. We do make stops along the way to pick up additional guests. Heading north, as we leave most of the population of Vancouver Island behind us, the highway shrinks to a curving passage around steep hills and mountains, and waterfalls can be seen from the highway. After a scenic drive, we will arrive at the friendly west coast community of Tofino at 12:30. After a sea kayak packing lesson, safety talk and a tasty lunch we will begin our expedition. After some exploring by kayak we will arrive at the Vargas Island Inn, our home for the first night of the expedition. Accommodation: Lodge. Included: (L), (D), (S).

Day 2: An early breakfast and hot coffee before setting off for some morning paddling along the exposed coast of Vargas Island. We will lunch on one of the beautiful sandy beaches, taking time to capture photographs of the abundant wildlife and the awe inspiring open Pacific. Accommodation: Camping. Included: (B), (L), (D), (S).

Day 3: Continuing north from our beach camp, we will follow the coastline along Flores Island, a popular summer feeding ground for the Grey whale. Accommodation: Camping. Included: (B), (L), (D), (S).

Day 4: Another day of exploring the northern reaches of Clayoquot Sound. This remote area is seldom visited by other kayakers and we will have ample time to go and explore the secret coves and inlets. Accommodation: Camping. Included: (B), (L), (D), (S).

Day 5: Another blissful morning of paddling brings us to our final destination, Hot Springs Cove Provincial Park. As we soak in the mineral rich pools (54 C) we will reflect upon the time spent in one of Vancouver Islands most precious of places. Our last night will be spent camping at this amazing spot. Accommodation: Camping. Included: (B), (L), (D), (S).

Day 6: After breakfast we will break camp and await our water taxi pick-up for an enjoyable ride back to the place it all began; the village of Tofino. Included: (B), (L).
