Your Itinerary
Day 1 - Chittagong reception and painted rickshaw tour
Day one begins with you arrival in Chittagong, reception and transfer to your hotel. As per time available, we'll tour this bustling port city painted rickshaw or air-conditioned coach. You'll enjoy both the old colonial areas and historic sites as well as the more crowded newer business section and landmarks. Overnight in a local hotel. (B) (L) (D)
Day 2 - Cox's Bazar beach and Rakhaine culture
Today we breakfast early and luxury coach it down to Cox's Bazar. Upon arrival and seaside hotel check-in, we'll have all day to explore and tour this historical coastal market town and it's surroundings. With foothills rising in the east and a pristine beach dipping into the warm Bay of Bengal to the west, and with the colorful, lively market town nestled in between.
Among the highlights are sunbathing, beach-combing, jeepney driving or pony riding along the beach, hilltop Buddhist temples, bazaar bargains and handicraft hunting. Overnight at the best local hotel. (B) (L) (D)
Day 3 - Maheshkali Island and Rakhaine culture
Day three starts with an early morning boat journey to the sacred Maheskhali island. Atop the highest hill is an ancient Hindu temple, nearby is the tribal area of the Rakhine people of ancient Burmese extraction with their handicrafts (colorful cloth and silver/goldsmithing).
We'll be back in Cox's Bazar for a late lunch more sun and fun on the beach and bazaar. Evening pastimes of tea-stall crawling, bazaar-loitering, rickshaw hopping are available at no additional cost. Overnight at the Sayamen hotel. (B) (L) (D)
Day 4 - Teknaf to Saint Martins island
We take a scenic drive to Teknaf, the southernmost mainland point in the country and Burmese border town. Here we board a launch for a breezy two-hour sea cruise to Saint Martin's island, a small sparsely populated coral reef island. This idyllic isle has no roads, rickshaws, cars, or electricity (our lodge does have a generator for laptop addicts) just beach, coconut trees, beach, early morning fish markets, beach, low-tide connected mini-islands, beach, fisher-folk, swimming, beach, a lone sea-turtle conservation project and still more beach. Overnight in 'the' hotel right on the beach. (B) (L) (D)
Day 5 - Saint Martins island, beach stroll, swimming
Free to spend swimming, soaking up the sun, circumambulating the island by foot (a 3 to 4 hour stroll), having fun with beach sports, visiting the sea turtle conservation project, the local fish market, village homes, or when the tides are down walking over to two tiny uninhibited islands. Options include visiting the young Coast Guards (with the only phone and color TV on the island) and very private & exclusive beach picnics or parties. Overnight at a beach-side hotel. (B) (L) (D)
Day 6 - Launch cruise to Teknaf, drive to Cox's bazar
After a morning on the beach (or in the surf) we take an afternoon launch to Teknaf to explore this Burmese border town and it's various delights and sights; beaches (had enough?)
