The tour will take you through the region of Basilicata following the steps where Fredrick II built most of his castles and Cathedrals.
Your Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Venosa from Rome, Naples, or Bari's airports. Dinner and overnight. Included: (D).
Day 2: Walking tour of Venosa to visit the Palaeolitic Parch, the Archeological Park with the Roman Amphitheatre and the Jewish Catacombs, The Abbey of the Holy Trinity, Horatius Flaccus' house. Also visit Fredrick II Castle in Melfi, Monticchio Lakes and the Abbey of St. Michael, Return to Venosa, dinner in hotel. Included: (B), (L), (D).
Day 3: Full day tour to Matera to visit the Sassi. In 1993 the UNESCO declared the Sassi a Worldwide Patrimony of Humanity. There are more than 120 upstream rupestral churches: visit Santa Maria alle Malve, Santa Maria de Idris, San Pietro Caveoso, the Cathedral, and the Ridola Museum. Included: (B), (L), (D).
Day 4: full day tour to Acerenza, cited by Horatius in his work. The Norman Cathedral has the interior in a form of a Latin cross and is divided into one nave and two isles. Visit Lagopesole and the Castle of Fredrick II. Tour the Little Assisi of Ripacandida, with 14th century frescoes from the New and Old Testament. Included: (B), (L), (D).
Day 5: After breakfast departure to your cities of destination. Included: (B).

Transportation from airports to Venosa and vice versa is not included. The arrival can also be made with bus from Rome Airport. Prices to be advised.
