Day 1:

Tour members depart for Frankfurt, Germany from home countries.
Day 2:
September 6
Flights are met by TLC Tour Escorts. From Frankfurt we travel the Romantic Road to our first home-base, the 14th Century fairy tale city of Rothenburg-ob-der-Tauber. Along the way we stop for a welcome luncheon and at a doll and miniature museum housed in a castle before arriving at our cosy hotel within the pedestrian only area of Rothenburg.

Day 3:
September 7
A liesurely day with no bus travel starting with a short walk to the Rothenburg Puppenmuseum, home of the private collection of Katharina Engels. The afternoon is yours to explore Rothenburg, go to the antiques show, the Christmas Museum, shop or walk the city walls.

Day 4:
September 8
We'll continue our travels down the Romantic Road to the lush alpine meadows of Switzerland. Along the way we will stop to visit the spectacular Steiff Museum and Factory Store. We'll arrive in Zurich by late afternoon.

Day 5:
September 9
An easy day with little bus travel starts with a morning visit to the Sasha Morgenthaler Museum in the old city of Zurich, followed by a visit to the Zurcher Spielzeugmuseum and a late lunch. The remainder of the afternoon is yours to discover the delights of this beautiful Swiss city on the water.

Day 6:
September 10
On a full day's excursion to Basel, just 80 km away, we will visit the fabulous Puppenhausmuseum, the Historisches Museum Basel. You will have an opportunity to shop the old city of Basel, including doll shops, before we meet our coach and go to the nearby Toy Museum of Riehen.We'll return to Zurich in the early evening.

Day 7:
September 11
Today's excursion will take us north to Konstanz and the beautiful Bodensee area, where we will visit a private collection of dollhouses and doll rooms from 1830 to 1920. After a boat cruise on the Bodensee, we'll have tea while visiting the doll and toy museum housed in the schloss once lived in by the Graf Zeppelin.

Day 8:
September 12
Departing Zurich, we'll board our executive coach and climb high in the Swiss Alps to the resort town of Davos-Platz. Every curve in the road promises a new and breath-taking vista. In this playground of the rich and famous, we'll be visiting the exceptional private collection of Angela Prader. We'll arrive in Liechtenstein in early evening.

Day 9:
September 13
We'll start the day with a train tour of the tiny Principality of Liechtenstein. You will have time to explore the capital city of Vaduz, get your passport stamped and have lunch before we set off on an afternoon excursion to the nearby Heidi Village.

We'll depart the Swiss Alps and set out along the Toy Road, stopping frequently for refreshments and photo ops. By late afternoon we will arrive in the Green Heart of Germany, Thurigen.

Day 11:
September 15
In the morning we will travel to nearby Coburg to visit the largest private collection on display in Germany. After a light lunch in the city square, we'll travel a short distance to the Gotz Doll Factory. Surprise stops on the way back to the hotel.

Day 12:
September 16
Our first stop is the historic Weiss-Kuhnert factory where we will have a guided tour of this porcelain factory first built in the 1800s. All the porcelain manufacturers had dumping grounds for pieces that were less than exact, imperfect or discontinued. These sites are privately owned and not accessible without express permission from the owners and the local government. After lunch in a typical Thuringen Restaurant, we will be escorted to the privately owned porcelain dumping grounds where we have been granted permission to dig for "white gold". This is an exclusive privilege granted only to TLC Tours.

Day 13:
September 17
In the morning we will have an escorted tour of a traditional glass eye factory. In the afternoon we will visit a doll body factory that has been in the same family for over 100 years.

The day will start early with an escorted tour of the Marolin factory, makers of papier mache creche figures and holiday items. In the afternoon we will visit the Ino Schaller factory and have the opportunity to shop for papier mache candy boxes made from the original molds.

Christmas in September! We will spend the day visitng the Christmas Museum in Neustadt and several glass ornament factory outlets in the glass-blowing town of Lauscha. There will be fun and surprises in store for everyone at Christmas dinner onight.

Day 16:
September 20
On a full day excursion, we'll follow the Toy Route through the towns whose names are familiar to all doll collectors: Ilmenau, Ohrdruf, Grafenhain, Waltershausen...homes of the Kestner Porzellanfabrik, Simon & Halbig and so many others. We'll visit Schloss Tenneberg, home of the local doll museum, situated high atop the hill overlooking Waltershausen.

Day 17:
September 21
Departing Thuringen, our first stop will be at the Deutsches Spielzeugmuseum in Sonneberg. Our next stop will be in nearby Neustadt at the Deutschen Spielzeugindustrie Museum. With these two museum visits, you will be able to review all you have learned during your week in Thuringen. In the afternoon we will arrive at the splendid Hessisches Puppenmuseum, located in a parkland setting just one hour from Frankfurt. Our farewell dinner will be hosted in a unique restaurant nearby. We'll arrive at our airport hotel in the late evening.
