This tour connects two famous cities on the Danube - the Austrian capital Vienna and the Hungarian capital Budapest. Your route passes through wide-open plains and small villages giving an insight into Hungarian life away from the tourist throngs. Our English speaking tourguide shows you the the history and the country. +++ DAY 1: Vienna: Arrival and welcome +++ DAY 2: Vienna - Petronell (34 miles): Along the Danube via Orth and Eckartsau to Petronell-Carnuntum (romain ruins) +++ DAY 3: Petronell - Mosonmagyarovar (31 miles): This stage takes us along the Hungarian Border through wine-growing regions to the border crossing at Nickelsdorf, then follows the banks of the river Leitha right into the centre of Mosonmagyarovar +++ DAY 4: Mosonmagyarovar - Györ (31 miles): We bike through the former marsh region of the Little Alföld. Taking side roads we pass through delightful villages and arrive at the provincial capital of Györ. +++ DAY 5: Györ - Tata (54 miles): We leave Györ by the "back door" and head for Pannonhalma with its Benedictine Monastery and on to Tata, a delightful town situated on two lakes. +++ DAY 6: Tata - Esztergom (34 miles): Leaving Tata we travel over the densely wooded hills of the "Gerecse" range. The effort required to make the uphill gradients is rewarded by the enjoyment of the descent. In Esztergom you can admire the imposing cathedral. +++ DAY 7: From Esztergom we head for Visegrad and then cross to the Szentendre island by ferry. This lively and unusual artist's village is a favourite excursion destination. In the afternoon we arrive in Budapest. +++ DAY 8: Budapest: Departure by luxury coach back to Vienna; possibility for extension. +++ The tour includes accommodation in ***inns/hotels, halfboard, English speaking tour guide, support van, daily luggage transport, english route description, entrances and transfers as per programme, sightseeing tour Budapest, bustransfer Budapest-Vienna +++ Bike rental: 21-gear-trekking-bike, panniers; price per week: US$ 60,-
