This Intermediate Canoeing (Beginning Whitewater) course teaches basic water safety and builds on previously learned strokes and maneuvers in a safe situation with professional instructors. This is a 3-day course. Meals, all paddling and safety gear provided. Tandem and solo canoes are available.
Your Itinerary
Day 1: Meet at Canoe Alaska in Tok at ~9am and travel the Taylor Highway to the Dennison Fork of the Fortymile River. Lunch will be served at the put-in. After lunch, we'll discuss river safety, review basic strokes, practice upstream ferries and head down river, working on strokes and maneuvers. Camp that evening is ~5 miles from the put in.

Day 2: Today we'll cover eddy turns, peel outs and back ferries. Lots of riffles, corners, and obstacles provide plenty of opportunity to practice your new skills. Camp will be on the river with a gourmet dinner to end your day.

Day 3: The last day will be spent fine tuning what you've learned and making the most of the river's features to practice, practice, practice. After negotiating "Hell's Gate" we'll take out at the South Fork Bridge and return to Tok.

Price includes designated meals, all paddling and safety gear and certified instruction. Participants must supply sleeping bag, tent and personal items.
