This central region boasts the world's deepest gorge and some of the most brilliant sunsets in Nepal. There are five climatic and vegetation zones found here, from sunny subtropical valleys to boreal forests, high windy deserts and snow fields beyond.
A variety of ethnic groups have found their niche in this diverse terrain - the hill dwelling Mangar and Gurung people and their neighbours the Thakali and Manangis who live Tibetan - like lifestyles near the high passes.
This diverse and magnificent area offers several choices of treks trekking through forests and terraces below 6000ft to see the magnificent setting of Ganapokhara Lamjung or making a pilgrimage to Muktinath the holy city of both Budhist and Hindu faiths at the head of the Kali Gandaki gorge who live among the peaks in the Annapurna Sanctuary.
