One of the classic mountain walks of the world, the Tour of Mont Blanc circles the highest mountain in Western Europe, providing walkers with an opportunity to sample the culture and flavor of the three different countries which share the massif: France, Italy and Switzerland. Dominated throughout by views of the highest peaks in the Alps, including Mont Blanc itself (4,056m/15,767ft), the walk follows ancient pack animal routes.
Each pass opens up a new and exciting vista of the great peaks of the Alps. The trail is mostly moderate, but with a few challenging ascents. It is however well within the scope of most walkers. Trails are well defined and easy to follow, traversing high passes beneath spectacular glaciers or passing through Alpine villages. The satisfaction of completing one of the world's great walks provides the finishing touch to a great holiday.
This tour takes place on set dates and there will be as many as fifteen walkers traveling at the same time. The tour starts in the village of Les Houches at a 3-star chalet style hotel facing Mont Blanc. At Les Contamines you'll stay at a 2 star hotel whose restaurant is renowned for its cuisine.
At the tiny and remote settlement of Les Chapieux, you stay at a small but very welcoming auberge. For our 2 nights' stay in Italy you'll spend the night at a modern 2-star hotel at La Palud (1370m). It is a short bus ride to the historic town of Courmayeur.
On your first night in Switzerland in the un-spoilt Val Ferret we stay in a small, very comfortable 3 star hotel in the beautifully situated village of La Fouly. You spend two nights by the shores of beautiful Lac de Champex at the north-eastern end of the Mont Blanc range. On your last night in Switzerland you stay at a simple inn at Trient (very basic accommodation). Back in France you spend one night in a 2-star chalet style hotel in the ski resort of Argentiere, just one minute walk from the centre of the village.
For the two nights in Chamonix your 3 star hotel has excellent facilities and is centrally situated in the town center. Finally you return to our popular base hotel in Les Houches for the last night of the tour.
This classic alpine walk, the famous 'TMB' or 'Le Tour du Mont Blanc', circumnavigates Western Europe's highest mountain over passes and through the valleys of three contrasting countries. Walkers can savor the food and wine of France, Italy and Switzerland and enjoy some of the finest scenery in the world.
There will be up to fifteen people doing the walk on any date though you do not have to walk together if you are on the self guided tour. Single travelers can sometimes be paired up with others, if they are prepared to share, and thus save single supplement charges. We will normally have 2 staff in the area to carry out the baggage transfers. One acts as the guide on any guided departures. They will also act as a local contact in case of any problems that may arise.
