High in Rocky Mountain National Park, the Rockies give birth to the legendary Colorado River. Downstream of the Park near the town of Kremmling, the Colorado grows into a clear, gently flowing river that is friendly and inviting to people of all ages.
The character of the landscape along the Upper Colorado River varies from natural to rural, and the scenery includes ranch meadows, valleys, steep slopes and rugged cliffs. Willows and cottonwood trees line the riverbank, and Ponderosa pines, pinions and junipers dot the sage covered slopes.
We love this gentle white water rafting river as an introduction to rafting for families with small children, senior citizens, or folks looking for a lazy Colorado vacation.
The Upper Colorado River is located about 25 miles north of Vail, and just south of the town of Kremmling.
Little Gore Canyon Full-Day:
We meet at the Pumphouse Recreation Area, southwest of the town of Kremmling for this gentle one-day white water rafting float on the Colorado River through scenic ranch country and majestic sandstone, shale and Precambrian cliffs.
In the morning, you will raft through small rapids such as Needle Eye and Yarmony and stop for a quick dip in the natural hot springs. After a delicious smorgasbord picnic lunch, we can take a short hike to a set of petrified dinosaur tracks. A great gentle float for those that love rivers, but are not interested in big rapids. This trip is only offered to groups of 10 or more.
Upper Colorado River Overnight:
A perfect lazy and relaxing rafting vacation for families or beginners interested in checking out overnight rafting without the stress of white water. On the first day of your trip you will float through small rapids such as Eye of the Needle and Yarmony before stopping for a mouth watering riverside lunch. Following lunch you will continue on to a scenic riverside camp where you can enjoy a quiet evening beneath the stars.
On the second day of our two-day Colorado River trip, you'll emerge into rolling ranchland ringed by the high mountains of the towering Gore Range. There is time for sunbathing, swimming or just relaxing during a two-day escape from the rigors of everyday life.
