Your Itinerary
Day 1:
Paris to Vandenesse-en-Auxois: Transfer from the Regina Hotel in the afternoon to the Gare de Lyon rail station where you will travel by the TGV express train to Dijon. You will be met and transferred by motorcoach to Vandenesse-en-Auxois near the highest point of the Burgundy Canal, where the Escargot is moored. A welcome-aboard cocktail will be followed by dinner.

Day 2:
Vandenesse-en-Auxois to Pont d’Ouche: Morning excursion to the elegant 15th century Chateau de Commarin, still a private home, with beautiful furnishings and a unique collection of Renaissance heraldic tapestries. Also visit the nearby medieval village of Chateauneuf-en-Auxois, featuring an imposing 12th century military castle. Return to the barge for an afternoon cruise to the village of Pont d'Ouche. This is a beautiful route to walk or ride the barges' bicycles along the towpaths between the many locks.

Day 3:
Pont d’Ouche to La Bussiere: This morning, cruise through the heart of the Ouche Valley to the pretty village of La Bussiere with more opportunities for walking and cycling along the towpaths. After lunch, enjoy an excursion to Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy, for a guided tour of the fabulous 15th century hospital - Hotel Dieu -, which has a splendid varnished and tiled roof. This is probably the finest example of Burgundian/Flemish architecture in existence. Return in the late afternoon to the Escargot for dinner.

Day 4:
La Bussiere to Gissey: After breakfast, drive to Dijon, the capital of Burgundy, for a guided tour of its' historical center including the Ducal Palace. Time will be available to stroll through the picturesque covered-market, the largest in Burgundy. Return to the barge for an afternoon cruise to the little village of Gissey.

Day 5:
Gissey to Fleurey: This morning, cruise to the town of Fleurey-sur-Ouche. In the afternoon, an excursion will be provided to the village of Concoeur-et-Corboin, on the upper slopes of the Cotes de Nuits near Nuits St. Georges. Here you will visit a well-known producer of fruits and berries used in the liqueurs such as cassis, the famous black currant liqueur produced in this area. Return to the Escargot for dinner.

Day 6:
Fleurey to Dijon: Enjoy a short morning cruise to Velars-sur-Ouche, before an excursion to the Clos de Vougeot, where wine was being produced as long ago as the 12th century. Visit a display of old winepresses, where the winemaking process is described, followed by a wine tasting in a private cellar. Return to the barge for your last cruise segment on the Burgundy Canal - from Plombieres to Dijon. Farewell gala dinner on board.

Dijon to Paris: After breakfast transfer to the rail station in Dijon and return by TGV train to Paris.
