This is a contrast of experiences, taking in the wine regions of Marlborough, the rugged beauty of the Southern Alps and the adventure playground of Queenstown. The tour starts in Wellington, our Nation’s Capital City. Your entrance to the South Island is through the tranquil Marlborough Sounds, the gateway to New Zealand’s largest wine region. As you wend your way south to Chrischurch, the Garden City, you will be dwarfed by the giants of the sea – whales – as you visit them in their natural habitat. From Christchurch you will get your first real taste of the scenic beauty of the Southern Alps and the Southern Lake District’s clear mountain fed lakes, with the backdrop of the mountain range. Then it is to Queenstown, the adventure capital – where bungy jumping was invented. As well as the host of activities available, you fly over the Alps to the Milford Sounds. Words and pictures do not do it justice – sheer cliffs rising hundred and hundreds of feet and crystal clear water to unfathomable depths. The flight in and out is equally surprising. You can also experience the solitude of this area when you jet up the Dart River, and wander through the native bush to one of the sets of “Lord of the Rings” with the surrounding mountains. At night, you will experience the comfort and facilities as guests of the resorts, the peacefulness of lodges nestled on the banks of a pristine lake or adjacent to a vineyard or other equally superb locations. All the accommodations have been carefully selected to give you yet another true New Zealand experience. The meals will be exquisite, served with award winning wines of course.
Your Itinerary
Day 1: Kia Ora Aotearoa
Welcome to the South Island of New Zealand. Your tour commences in Wellington. We will greet you at Wellington airport and taken to your hotel. You will have the chance to unwind, see the sights and visit some of the local attractions. In the evening, a welcome to New Zealand cocktail function with dinner. Included: (D).
Day 2: Scenic Route to Marlborough
In the morning you will be hosted at one of the many golf courses in the City. You then board the Fast Ferry to cross the Cook Strait to Marlborough. This is a stunning scenic cruise through the Marlborough Sounds. Included: (B).
Day 3: Take to the Wine Trail
You will be hosted at the Fernhill Course, to be followed by a trek around the wine trail of this the largest wine region in New Zealand. Dinner may be at one of the wineries. Included: (B), (D).
Day 4: Whale Watch
Today you head to south to Christchurch. On the way you will be able to go Whale Watching – cruise out into the waters of the Pacific Ocean and see these monsters of the sea up close in their natural state. Afterwards relax in a thermal mineral pool before arriving at Clearwater Resort for the evening. Included: (B).
Day 5: Clearwater Resort
From your resort at Clearwater, you can enjoy the Clearwater golf course. In the afternoon you will see the sights of Christchurch. Included: (B).
Day 6: Terrace Downs High Country Resort
Play a round at this special and unique location set high above the Raikaia Gorge. In the afternoon a spot of salmon fishing perhaps, a horse trek or a jetboat through the rapids. Afterwards, you are taken to your overnight accommodation in the shadow of the majestic Southern Alps. Included: (B).
Day 7: Southern Lakes District
We may stop off for a round at one of the many courses along the way, arriving at your overnight accommodation at the Millbrook Resort. Relax and be pampered. Included: (B).
Day 8: Queenstown
You can start your stay here with a round at Millbrook Resort, where you will be staying while in Queenstown. In the afternoon explore the district and see what is on offer – ride the gondola and parapent back down to the township. Included: (B).
Day 9: Fly into the Milford Sounds
In and around Queenstown in the morning, before flying to Milford Sounds, cruising around this natural wonder and flying back out along the Milford Track – the ruggedness of the Southern Alps – the sheer cliffs of the Sounds - spell binding. In the evening take a cruise across the lake for dinner. Included: (B).
Day 10: Kelvin Heights for golf
A superb course, with the backdrop of the lake on three sides and the towering Remarkables Range. You can spend the afternoon at Arrowtown, a restored gold-mining town of the 1800’s or you can tour the wineries of the region. You will dine tonight at one of them. For the adventurous – try a bungy jump! Included: (B), (D).
Day 11: To “Lord of the Rings” “Middle Earth”
Today you will see and be blown away by the natural beauty of New Zealand. A short hike, a jet boat and you will be all alone in the middle of the most superb arena you have ever experienced. Reluctantly you will return to civilization. Included: (B), (L).
Day 12: Haere Ra
In the morning you will be taken to the airport or your point of departure. Flights out of Queenstown are not included. Included: (B).
