The Verdi festival has become a favorite summertime tradition. It is held annually in the ancient Philipoppolis Roman Amphitheater in the Old town of Plovdiv. The tour includes also visits of the two most famous Bulgarian monasteries: Rila and Batchkovo monastery, and some important historical monuments as the Kazanlak Thracian tomb included in the UNESCO list of the world heritage.

Your Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Sofia international airport. Meet with the guide. Transfer to Plovdiv. Accommodation in a hotel /3 stars/. Included: (D).

Day 2: After breakfast sightseeing of the old town of Plovdiv. Plovdiv has served as a favourite meeting place for traders since the beginning of commerce. Its unique location has stimulated strong cultural and political influences from East and West civilizations but at the same time the town managed to maintain a unique cultural identity. The city's Old Town is preserved as an authentic 19th Century Renaissance open-air museum and features the amazing romantic architecture of that period. The famous ancient Philipoppolis Amphitheater, built in 343 AD is also situated here. In the evening: opera performance at the Roman Amphitheater. Included: (B), (L), (D).

Day 3: After breakfast trip to Batchkovo monastery and the fortress near Assenovgrad. In the evening: opera night. Included: (B), (L), (D).

Day 4: A trip to Koprivshtica to see the Renaissance architectural style. Back to Plovdiv for another exciting Verdi opera night in open air. Included: (B), (L), (D).

Day 5: A trip to the Rose valley to visit the Kazanlak Thracian tomb /4th Cent. BC/ - included in the UNESCO list of the world heritage. For centuries the famous oil-bearing roses have been grown here and distilled into the highest quality rose oil in the world. Back to Plovdiv. Opera night. Included: (B), (L), (D).

Day 6: Drive through Rila mountain /Borovetz/ to visit the picturesque town of Bansko located in the foot of the highest peak in the Balkan Peninsula. O the way a trip to Rila peaks with the gondola lift. Overnight in Bansko. Included: (B), (L), (D).

Day 7: After breakfast drive to Rila monastery /included in the UNESCO list of the world heritage/. It is located in the middle of Rila Mountain. The Monastery is a symbol of the Bulgarian Renaissance. During the years of the Ottoman rule the Bulgarian culture and identity were preserved there. The monastery impresses the visitors with its harmony - buildings and colonnades, arches and tombs, spacious premises with paintings and icons. In the evening: folklore show and music. Overnight in Sofia. Included: (B), (L), (D).

Day 8: Sightseeing of the capital of Bulgaria. Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria as well as the fifth capital of the country in the course of its 1300 years history. The town is located in the foot of Vitosha Mountain. It was established in 5th Century BC as a Tracian settlement with its first name Serdika, possessing thousand years of history. A transfer to the international airport for your flight back home. Included: (B), (L).
