Your Itinerary
Day 1: Avignon
Enjoy a delightful walking tour in Avignon, the lively City of the Popes. Stretching in all its beauty along the banks of the River Rhone, Avignon is peppered with bell towers among a quilted blanket of peach-colored roofs, surrounded by ramparts and dominated by the Cathedral and Palace of the Popes. (D).
Days 2-3: Salin-De-Giraud - Arles - St-Remy-de-Provence
Cycle to Arles through the plains of the Camargue, a unique nature reserve. Arles is a historic city with narrow streets, grand boulevards, and Roman antiquities. Experience the former capital of the Roman 'Province', where Van Gogh was inspired by the region's exquisite beauty. As you bike to St-Remy-de-Provence note the limestone Alpilles chain, whose arid white peaks are striking and stark against the blue sky. Day 2 includes dinner. (B).
Day 4: Remy-de-Provence
Visit the bustling market of St-Rémy, retrace the steps of Vincent van Gogh and explore the magnificent old stone quarries. Then we climb the Alpilles hills to the geological formation of Les Deux Trous (The Two Holes) and descend into St-Rémy to walk among the Roman ruins of the ancient town. An alternate route through quintessential Provencal towns awaits our biking enthusiasts. (B).
Day 5: Arpaillargues
Cycle over the ancient Roman road Via Aurelia, from St-Rémy to the Pont du Gard. Explore the countryside of medieval castles along the Rhone River and beside Cote du Rhone vineyards. Pont du Gard is considered one of the wonders of the ancient world, and you'll see why. We end in the peaceful village of Arpaillargues and our quaint chateau. (B/D).
Days 6-7: Arpaillargues - Gardon River - Avignon
We first cycle to Blauzac and its 13th century, nine-arched bridge, built over the River Gardon. In Collias you can opt to canoe or kayak down the spectacular Gardon River with a grand arrival at the Pont du Gard. (B/D).
