Hidden gardens, beautifully restored antebellum homes, and quaint churches are just a part of the charm of Charleston. The other part of its charm is the slow pace of life, the southern accent, and the brick-paved streets. March is one of the most popular times of the year to visit Charleston. The weather is very comfortable and the azaleas are in bloom! Come take a step back in time as we visit the charm of a bygone era and peek into lovely homes and secluded gardens, while visiting one of the loveliest cities in the South.

As part of this Charleston Tour you can choose to go to Savannah for one day, or to the fabulous Brookgreen Gardens. Brookgreen Gardens has the largest outdoor collection of statuary in the world and is well worth seeing.

Your Itinerary

Day 1:
Saturday, April 2: Arrive in Charleston and enjoy a city tour.

After arriving and meeting the rest of the group, you will experience the charm of Charleston with a horse drawn carriage ride. It’s a lovely way to see the city and get a “lay of the land.” Our guide will take us around the historic district to acquaint us with the beauty and history of Charleston. After the carriage ride it's off to dinner at Sticky Fingers where you'll have a chance to sample some of the best "Carolina Barbeque" you've ever tasted.

Our hotel for the trip is the Kings Courtyard Hotel - a AAA four diamond property and a historic inn. This beautifully restored inn once catered to wealthy merchants and plantation owners.

We will leave the city today and venture out to Middleton Place, a carefully preserved 18th-century plantation (www.middletonplace.org). Here you will have an opportunity to learn about the day to day workings of a plantation and see the restored grounds. This afternoon will be free for you to explore Charleston. Your tour leader will have plenty of suggestions as to how to best use your time. Dinner is on your own this evening.

This morning is in another chance to see some more of Charleston. Visit the old city market and watch the women weave baskets, or take a tour of the harbor. Once again, your tour leader will make suggestions as to how to best use your time. This afternoon we will enjoy a tour through several homes and gardens in Charleston’s historic district (www.historiccharleston.org).
