Many would say the Amalfi coastline, extending south of Naples, is the most beautiful region in the Mediterranean and it would be hard to disagree. We explore a radiant landscape where one mountain after another plunges into the aquamarine sea - a truly vertical landscape of green forest, deep gorges, sheer limestone cliffs and the picturesque villages of Positano, Ravello and Amalfi. We discover the dreamy island of Capri with its 12 Roman villas and extraordinary rock formations rising up from the sea. Our walks take us through vineyards and gardens, fragrant lemon and olive groves from village to village, linked by a network of walking trails. Our walks take us off the beaten track to discover the hidden side of the Amalfi coast.
Your Itinerary:
Day 1: Meet at Naples airport from where we transfer to the Marina del Cantone on the Sorrento peninsula which will be our base for the next two nights. We can take a short panoramic walk on arrival. Our hotel is located close to the sea and many of the rooms have terraces with sea views. We celebrate our first dinner together on a terrace overlooking the sea.

Day 2: Today we catch the bus to the small village of Termini, just a few kilometers short of the famed Amalfi coast. Our trail takes us to the top of Monte Costanzo with it white washed church. We then walk through pinewoods and start to get panoramic views of the Bay of Jeranto and your first glimpse of the legendary island of Capri. In the afternoon we can return directly to the hotel on foot or take an optional walk to Punta Penna. Dinner tonight is special treat at a renowned fish restaurant.

Day 3: After breakfast we head across the water by boat to the magical island of Capri. Many claim that Capri is the most beautiful island in the Mediterranean and with more than 800 species of plants it is a true Garden of Eden. We take a morning stroll to Villa Jovis, the most important of the 12 Roman villas on the island. Tiberius governed the Roman Empire from here in the last ten years of his life. From here we walk on to the Faraglioni, three enormous sheer sided limestone pinnacles, shooting straight out of the sea. In the afternoon we take the boat to Positano. Our base for the next three nights is a picturesque white villa. We leave you free for dinner tonight.

Day 4: Our walk today is aptly named Sentiero degli Dei or Path of the Gods and is arguably the most beautiful walk of the week. We travel by minibus up into the mountains where we start our walk. We take a trail that follows the contours of the mountains and seems suspended above the sea below. All along the route there are magnificent views of the Amalfi coast and Capri. We pass magnificent grottos and through the tiny villages of Montepertusi and Nocella. We take lunch along the trail and in the afternoon descend to Positano by a series of panoramic stone stairways. For those who wish it is possible to descend to Positano by bus.

Day 5: This morning take time to explore to Positano, Italy's most vertical town. The square pastel colored villas of Positano are famous and it has long been a hideaway for artists and writers, including notables such as John Steinbeck, Gore Vidal and Rudolph Nureyev. We then take a walk up into the mountains behind Positano. Our trail is high above the coast with panoramic views of the Mediterranean below. We can stop for lunch al fresco at Santa Maria del Castello, from where there are 360 degree views. From here we can descend directly to Positano all the way back to your hotel on small trails.

Day 6: Today we leave Positano and travel by boat to Amalfi, a town of tall white houses facing the sea. We wander through Amalfi to the beginning of the Valle dei Mulini or the Valley of the Mills. This easy trail passes derelict mills, sylvan glades and tumbling streams. From here we walk onto Ravello, one of the most panoramic towns in Italy. Dating back to Roman times it has superb views overlooking the Bay of Naples. In the afternoon you have time to explore Ravello and its famous gardens; Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo. In the late afternoon we meet at a local cantina to try some of the excellent Campanian wines. We leave you free for dinner tonight.

Day 7: Today our trail takes us through beech woods, over waterfalls and through a nature reserve to Scala, the oldest of the Amalfitan towns. This well-marked path takes us into the rugged hinterland of the Lattari Mountains. Although never far from civilization we feel as if you are in a different world of high pasture, remote woodland and magnificent mountains. Along the way we pass through Bosco Grande with its magnificent view point of the valley below. We pass through the small village of Pogerola before descending to Amalfi below. We meet in the evening for our farewell dinner at one of Ravello’s finest restaurants.
