We specialize in fiddle virgins. By the end of the week you'll be playing your first tune! Morning classes are a hoot, there's no music theory, no pressure and no rush. Afternoons are free to explore the most beautiful part of Ireland.

For Intermediates, it's a chance to devote a week to your music, to getting new tunes, improving technique and learning how to teach yourself. Because we do our best learning when we're relaxed, don't expect a studious music course. Though we aim to motivate, lay solid foundations and teach effective practice, our main concern is that it's fun.

Morning classes are held at our house, in a spacious music room with great acoustics and mountain views! Though it feels spectacularly remote, we are only 4 miles from Kenmare. Most evenings will be spent at sessions in and around Kenmare or if there are any gigs on in the Kerry/Cork area we'll try and get to those. If you're up to playing sessions, you'll be very welcome to join us for tunes on Monday and Tuesday nights in Crowley's bar.'

Your Itinerary:

Day 1: Sunday evening.

You can fly in to Kerry, Cork, Shannon and Dublin airports and there are coach and rail terminals in Killarney. After a truly spectacular drive through the Lakes of Killarney and the Gap of Dunloe you will arrive in Kenmare. Later, we'll meet up at Crowley's Bar and run through the program for the week, and then if there's a session or gig on, we can go have a listen.

Day 2: Morning Fiddle class - 10am to 1pm.

Gap of Dunloe Tour - a classic. Travel by coach to Kate Kearney's cottage, and change there to jaunting car or pony for the journey through the Gap of Dunloe, a magnificent glaciated valley with high cliffs and isolated lakes. Visit a traditional session or gig in the evening, if available.

Day 3: Morning Fiddle class - 10am to 1pm

A trip to Derrynane beach, Daniel O'Connell's house and gardens - spectacular coastal scenery and Irish Coffees to follow. Visit a traditional session in the evening, if available.

Day 4: Morning Fiddle class - 10am to 1pm

McGillicuddy's Reeks - a walk along the flatter bits of the mountain range, with views over to Irelands highest peak, Carantouhil. Visit a traditional session or gig in the evening, if available.

Day 5: Morning Fiddle class - 10am to 1pm

Garnish Island, Glengariff - a spectacular drive over the Cork and Kerry mountains, taking you down the Beara Peninsula, where you may take a boat across to island and enjoy the famous Italianate gardens and swim in the clear blue waters of Bantry Bay. Visit a traditional session or gig in the evening, if available.

Day 6: Morning Fiddle class - 10am to 1pm

'Seafari' - Eco-Nature and seal-watching cruises on Kenmare Bay. Regular visitors include: Sea-otters, Grey Seals, Minke Whales, Killer Whales, Herons, Oyster Catchers and Kingfishers. Situated between the Iveragh and Beara Peninsular, the bay with it's unpolluted water mirrors the majesty of the McGillicuddys Reeks and the Caha mountain ranges. The afternoon excursions are suggestions and you are free to please yourself in the afternoons.
