Day 1 - Arusha / Lava Caves

After breakfast transfer to Marangu gate and then to Umbwe Village to start the climb. Climb for 4 hours through the rainforest to camp at the caves 2,800 m above sea level.

Day 2 - Lava Caves / Barranco Hut

After breakfast continue ascent along a sharp ridge, giving a distinct high mountain feeling. Then unto the Moorland Camp and arrive by mid afternoon. Overnight at Barranco Hut, 3,900 m.

Day 3 - Barranco Hut / Arrow glacier

A four-hour walk past enormous breach walls to camp at foot of the arrow Glacier. A leisurely afternoon and evening, acclimatizing at around 4,900 m and watching sunset behind Mt. Meru.

Day 4 - Arrow Glacier / Kilimanjaro Crater Rim

Climbing the same steep walls and scrambling up the screen and across the frozen lava on the tottering wall. Camping on the stunning crater rim of Kilimanjaro.

Day 5 - Kilimanjaro Crater Rim / Horombo Hut

Trek the highest point in Africa, Uhuru peak at 5,896 m. Descend via Gilman's point onto Horombo hut, 3,761 for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 - Horombo / Arusha

After breakfast descend to Marangu Park Gate via Mandara. You will be transferred to Arusha for dinner and overnight

Climate:
This of course varies with the geographical location. In the coastal area it is hot and humid with a rainy season from March to May. It is semi-temperate in the mountain regions, with the short rains in November and December, and the longer rains from February to May. The plateau region is drier, with considerable variations of temperature. Rainfall increases in the north and also the lake areas. Rainfall is well distributed but the peak is from March to May. Temperatures vary depending on location between 20 and 30 degrees.

Airport Tax:
On International flights there is a tax of US 20.00 per person.

Time:
Tanzania is GMT plus three hours

Visa:
Most European nationals require a visa which can be obtained through your travel agent or from the Consular section of the Tanzanian Embassies and Consulates.

How to get there:
The three international airports are at Dar Es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar. From Europe there are daily flights served by British Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, KLM, Swiss, Lufthansa to name a few.
