Day 1
Arrive at choosen Hotel.
Day 2
Drive to Lake Manyara Park, tour with picnic lunch. Dinner and overnight at Kudu Camp.
Day 3
Drive to the Ngorongoro Crater, cross the crater floor with time for a 2 hour game drive before driving out and up to the Maasai village of Nainokanoka. Load our luggage onto Maasai donkeys and walk to across the grassy expanse of the Embulbul Depression to Bulati Campsite on the rim of Empaakai Crater. (5 hours).
Day 4
Walk to Empaakai Crater for lunch, walk down to the lake. The area is rich in birdlife and often many flamingo can be seen. Climb back out of the crater then on to Empaakai Camp. (3 hours direct walk, 7 hours if the descent and walk round lake are included).
Day 5
Contine round the rim then drop down the gentle northern slopes of Empaakai to Naiyobi Maasai village (3 hours). After a short visit to this remote Maasai community we continue north to leave the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and continue along airy ridges to Acacia Camp (4-5 hours).
Day 6
Descend down to rift valley floor near Chini ya Miti. Here a vehicle meets us and takes us to Kimakia Campsite. - this is located amongst acacia trees by the Ngare Sero River not far from where it flows into Lake Natron. Visit Lake Natron with its resident flocks of flamingoes.
Day 7
A very early start is made to drive us to the base of Lengai. Much of the steep 5 hour ascent is then carried out in the relative cool of the night to reach the crater rim soon after sunrise. A few hours can be spent exploring the crater - conditions here vary from year to year depending on the degree of activity. Descend later in the morning and drive back to Lake Natron Kimakia Camp. There may be time in the afternoon to walk up the Ngare Sero gorge to the dramatic source of the river where it gushes from numerous springs in a great rock amphitheatre.
Day 8
Drive to Engaruka ruins - lunch stop. There will be some time available to visit this 15th - 16th century site composed of seven villages with a complex stone-block irrigation canal and intricate agricultural system. Continue on to Twiga campsite by Lake Manyara.
Day 9
Visit Tarangire game park then return to Moshi. It is also possible to return to Arusha in time for the afternoon transfer to Nairobi.
