Imagine massive sand dunes, lush palm groves and stark mountain landscapes and you are in Morocco. This 8 day trekking adventure, starting from the small southern town of Ouarzazate, traverses the Rwidat and Atlas mountain ranges and crosses the mighty Sahara desert, allowing you to experience the stunning diversity of the Moroccan landscape and camp under vast starry skies. Spend some time soaking up the atmosphere of the Djemaa el-Fna in Marrakech, a bustling and lively square in the old city filled with the mouth watering aromas of local food stalls.
First you'll fly from Heathrow airport down to the far south of Morocco to arrive in the small town of Ouarzazate. Here you will be met at the airport and transferred to the Hotel to wash and brush up before dinner.
After an early breakfast you will be transferred by 4x4 vehicles to the deep south of Morocco, you will travel the Draa valley, a stunning glimpse of the varied and interesting Moroccan countryside. We will stop for lunch in a palm grove where we can stretch our legs and get some shade from the bright sun. We pass through some small and colourful villages of Zagora city, Tougounit, and then follow these small 4x4 track by Oued Moulili. At the oasis of Aferdou we will be ready to start walking and we will walk for 2 hours to get to our most impressive tented camp where we will spend the night.
Then will be the first day of full trekking which will take us by the Rwidat mountain range and we will climb up the side in a zigzag fashion heading for Jbel Bani, a black mountain. Once we get to the top of range, we will be walking along the ridge until we get up to Tizi n'Gdalt. From here we have a stunning view of the mighty Sahara desert. We head down to the basin and walk to a new camp area where our Saharan tents have been re-located to a place the locals call Mhasser.
After breakfast and a good stretch to loosen those muscles we will cross the Plateau of Zawiyat Sidi Abd Rahmane - this will be an easy trek if the day is not too hot. Our camp tonight will be situated at the foot of the impressive dunes of Erg Sedrat. Once again the camp will have been moved from the night before and the food cooked ready for a night under the stars. (5 hours walking).
An early start is recommended to escape the main heat of the day and have a long lunch instead. Walking on the ever-moving sand dunes of Erg Smar is harder work than it first seems but we will continue to cross these dunes, called Oued Attach, to our next camp. (5 hours walking).
Our last day of trekking, over a fantastic piece of the desert to the lunchtime spot. After lunch we will meet the 4x4 transport and cross the rest of the desert by the Iriki dry lake, through Foum Zguid village, which is the door of the desert and on to the road that joins Safran to Tazenakht. We drive on to the same hotel located at Ouarzazate and overnight. (4 hours walking).
Penultimate day after breakfast we hit the road over the Atlas Mountains passing through Tizi n'Tichka on our way to Marrakech. Once arrived we all can have a relaxing afternoon with a short tour of Marrakech to meet back at the hotel for a final dinner gala meal. Overnight in a Hotel. Finally we'll transfer to Marrakech Airport to fly home.
