Jump in a skiff and head out into Magdalena Bay. Sheltered by low barrier islands, the waters of Magdalena Bay provide a perfect and peaceful winter home to hundreds of California Gray Whales. January through March experience the Calfornia Gray Whale in its birthing and mating ground. These magnanimous creatures allow us to watch them roll, breach and tend to their young, an experience both exhilarating and humbling. A close up wilderness encounter not to be missed and once experienced it will never be forgotten.
Whale watching is the primary activity yet you will find plenty of opportunities for hiking, kayaking and beach exploring as well. Watch for herons, egrets and ibis while you paddle your kayak through the mangroves and peaceful waters of the bay. Our camp is situated on a secluded beach and equipped with every amenity from over-sized tents to solar heated showers.
It's difficult to conjure up a more unique place than Magdalena Bay - a complex and captivating environment characterized by endlessly shifting sand dunes, brilliantly blooming desert flora, twisting mangrove-lined estuaries and, most magnificent of all, the California Gray Whale. One visit and your will understand why the whales travel 5,000 miles to their winter respite.

Testimonials:
"When we arrived at the sandy spit on the seaward edge of Magdalena Bay, I was delighted to discover a well-planned campsite, attentive to the dunes, respectful of a landscape which became home for a week. Days in a panga looking for whales emphasized the care and concern of the expedition's staff. They explained and described whales who cavorted around us as if we were old friends.
Long walks on the beach. Climbing a dune to watch the sun set in the Pacific. What a marvelous time at a marvelous place. My thanks to everyone at Baja Expeditions for an unparalleled experience that was the absolute best in eco-travel!" Ann Zwinger
