TRANSPORTATION & GENERAL INFORMATION
The Lower Salmon begins and ends in Lewiston, Idaho. You should plan to arrive the day or evening before your trip date. (Transport to the put-in and from the take-out is included in your fare).
ACCOMMODATIONS: For convenience, we prefer all guests stay at the motel of our choice. The Red Lion Hotel - Lewiston, 621 21st Avenue, Lewiston, ID 83501. Phone 800-232-6730 or (208)799-1000. Please identify yourself as an OTT customer when making your reservations. We suggest you make your reserve ations early. Shuttles to the hotel from the airport are available.
MEETING THE GUIDES: There will be a brief pre-trip orientation in the Red Lion Hotel lobby at 8 p.m. the evening before the trip start date. Guests will meet their head guide at this time, receive OTT clothes bags, and discuss "Packing For Your Trip." The head guide will designate a time to meet you the following morning in the Red Lion Hotel lobby. Please be prompt! You should have breakfast prior to departing for the river.
AIRLINES: Connecting flights to Lewiston, ID, are available on Horizon Air from Boise, Portland, Seattle and Spokane, WA. United Airlines, Delta Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Southwest, Northwest and America West schedule flights to Boise and Portland. The Red Lion provides transportation from the airport to the Red Lion Hotel in downtown Lewiston (Approximately three miles). An economical alternative may be to fly directly into Spokane, WA, an easy two-hour drive to Lewiston. We arrive back in Lewiston mid-afternoon. We recommend you stay over, but if you have an evening flight out, please advise our office and the head guide at the pre-trip orientation.
If you need transportation in Lewiston for dinner, etc., the Consolidated Cab Company has a maxi-van available for large groups; reservations should be made in advance for this vehicle: 208-743-4596 or 743-3223.
AUTOMOBILE: If you drive to Lewiston, your car can remain at the Red Lion Hotel, safely, while you are on the river. Please notify the hotel upon check-in.
PLEASE NOTE: Lodging before and after your trip is not included in your fare, nor is breakfast on trip morning. Meals are provided from lunch on the first day through lunch on the last day.
TRIP ITINERARY: Our put-in is scheduled for late-morning at Hammer Creek, where the river orientation and final adjustments are made. You will begin a great adventure on one of the finest stretches of whitewater for inflatable kayaking in America.
In a land of raw beauty, the Lower Salmon passes through the narrow volcanic canyons of Western Idaho. Moderately warm water combined with good current and large camping beaches add to the special quality of one of our most remote area trips.
The first 52 miles you will paddle your boat through four spectacular canyons. Throughout the trip you will navigate dozens of exciting rapids such as: Rollercoaster, Demon's Drop, Big Mama, Whitehouse, Bodacious Bounce, Half and Half, Gobbler, Snowhole, China, Devil's Slide, Guides Revenge, and Eye of the Needle.
On the fourth day of your trip you will paddle to the Snake River where you'll be met by a commercial jet boat operator for a thrilling 52 mile boat ride down the scenic Snake River, through the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, to downtown Lewiston. From there, you'll be transported by bus or van back to the Red Lion Hotel; a short five minute ride.
