The program includes little of all “Greek musts” that is archaeology, tradition, nature, sea and sun. We start in Athens by visiting the major archaeological sites of the Acropolis and the Panathinaikon stadium. We continue to Delphi, “the navel of the world” and visit in the same region “Vagonetto” a unique theme park about bauxite excavation. We continue to the region of Evritania, a mountainous natural paradise with authentic villages and many opportunities for outdoor activities. Depending on the age of your children we suggest a variety of activities ranging from pony or horse riding to trekking and canoeing. Our last destination is in the island of Lefkada in the Ionian sea where we can enjoy swimming and a variety of sea activities like snorkeling, sea kayaking or motorboat cruises to the nearby islands.
Trip Summary:
Day 1 - Arrival in Athens. Upon arrival to Athens, we recommend that you take a taxi or metro to arrive to the city centre. This is in order to avoid driving in the city centre and save the cost of renting a car for an extra day. A Trekking Hellas representative will meet you at your hotel lobby at a designated agreed upon time in order to give you your trip dossier containing all necessary information and documents fro your trip (vouchers, maps, directions, telephones etc) O/n in Athens.
Day 2 - Athens sightseeing and drive to Arachova. In the morning you can visit all classical highlights of Athens, the Acropolis, Constitution square, Panathinaikon stadium, where the first Olympic games of the modern era were held in 1896, the temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrians arch. (Please note that sightseeing with professional guide can be arranged with extra payment). You will have some free time to enjoy lunch and shopping in the old district of Plaka and then you will pick up your car in order to drive to Arachova, the village close to Delfi. (2 hours drive from Athens)
Day 3 - Delfi sightseeing. In the morning you will have time to visit Delfi, the Centre of the Ancient world - the Omphalos (Navel) of the Earth On the slopes of Mt. Parnassus, in a landscape of unparalleled beauty and majesty, lie the ruins of the Sanctuary of Apollo. Visit the Treasury of the Athenians the Temple of Apollo and the Museum containing such masterpieces of ancient Greek sculptures as the bronze Charioteer and the famous athlete Aghias. (Please note that sightseeing with professional guide can be arranged in Delfi with extra payment).
Day 4 - Visit Vagonetto and arrive to Karpenisi. A very picturesque driving day awaits you! Upon our instructions you will cross Mt.Parnassos heading to Lamia and eventually Karpenisi. On the way we recommend that you stop to Vagonetto Theme Park, for a very interesting and educational visit about bauxite excavation. In a small train you will travel inside tunnels where all history and excavation process is depicted. Arrive to Evritania and settle to your hotel.
Day 5 - Outdoors fun in Evritania. The activities of days 5 and 6 are indicative and can be altered according to the ages of your children. As this is your first day in the region we recommend some short light activities, which you can do at Saloon Fun Park. The park offers numerous activities for children and adults ranging from horse or pony riding, to archery, abseiling even a ride with a small train. Rest of the day free to visit nearby villages and taste the delicious local cuisine.
Day 6 - Outdoors fun in Evritania. Today is a trekking day and again, depending on your children’s age we will recommend the appropriate route for you. An easy 15 minutes trek in Mavri Spilia (Back Cave), a demanding peak ascent to Mt.Helidona, or river trekking in PantaVrechei.
Day 7 - Drive to Lefkada. Another very picturesque driving day along the west coast of the mainland, takes you to Lefkada Island. Settle to your hotel and relax by the seaside.
Day 8 - Motorboat Cruise. For the next two days you can enjoy swimming in the Ionian’s crystal clear waters. For this first day we recommend a motorboat cruise in the regions giving you the opportunity to swim in isolated beaches, enjoy fishing or snorkeling in secluded bays.
Day 9 - Free day. Relax in the beach or participate in some sea activities like sea kayaking, scuba diving, or sailing!
Day 10 - Return to Athens. Drive back to Athens
