It is said that in Paggaio mountain, God Dionissos grew up and according to the myth got the king’s horses drunk with wine produced in this region. This mountain used to be the center of God Dionisso’s worship in ancient Greece and is the point where our trip also begins. We continue to Epanomi, Goymenissa, Amyntaio, a route full with wine perfumes and flavors totally harmonized with each place, offering a different escape from the everyday routine.
Trip Summary:
Day 1 - Arrival at the international airport Macedonia in the city of Thessaloniki, where your guide will wait to transfer you at the hotel we have chosen for you. The rest of the day is free for a first walk in the city of Thessaloniki. In the evening during a welcome dinner you will meet the rest of the group and your guides will inform you for the program’s details (o/n Thessaloniki).
Day 2 - Today we will visit the Ktima Kostas Lazaridis in Adriani Dramas. In a total surface that touches up to 7000 sq.m and includes a model architectural wine factory, distillery, underground AGE cellars and reception room, we will have the opportunity to taste the wine family Amethistos and Chateau Ioulia whilst being informed for the distillation and bottling process of the wine. After lunch in a local tavern, we will visit the walls of city of Drama from the Byzantine era, the temples of Saint Sofia and Brigadiers as well as the traditional settlement of Saint Barbara. Return in Thessaloniki (o/n Thessaloniki).
Day 3 - Today we will visit the Gerovasiliou property in Epanomi. In the stone tower with the underground cellars we see the owner’s personal collection of old wine objects. We continue to the cellars where the aging process of the wines takes place and then gather to the room where we will be informed on the way the wine of this property is produced and taste their high quality produce that enjoys international reputation and rewards. After lunch we return to Thessaloniki (o/n Thessaloniki).
Day 4 - In the hills of Vertiskos mountain in the village Ossa we will visit Parko Ampelou Mpampatzimopoulou. We will walk in the vineyard in a environment of astonishing natural beauty, and reach the cellar and the room of trials where we’ll taste the wines of this property. After lunch in a local tavern, we will visit the folklore museum and the church of Virgin Mary Kyranna and return to Thessaloniki (o/n Thessaloniki).
Day 5 - Today we will visit Goumenissa, a city with a great tradition in viniculture. The wines produced in this area come from the vineyards of mountain Paúko. The high standard Winery of Boutari will welcome us in order to show us everything concerning the wine and its history. We’ll see in underground cellars the wines, as they are aging in particularly limited numbers of bottles and wines of exceptional vintages. We leave Goumenissa and head to the traditional settlement of Nymfaio (o/n Nimfaio).
Day 6 - The wine factory Vegoritis in St.Panteleimon Amintaio, has taken its name from the homonymous lake. Here we will taste the wines of Florina. In the afternoon we will have free time to relax in our marvelous guesthouse, and walk in the traditional village of Nymfaio (o/n Nimfaio).
Day 7 - In our way back to the city of Thessaloniki, we will visit village Velvento and the vineyard ktima Vogjatzi. Here, the owner will guide us in his vineyard and unfold the story of his produce. Afterwards we will walk to the traditional village to marvel the stone two-storied houses, the old water mils and we will visit Neraida to marvel the impressive view of the lake. We continue to Thessaloniki (o/n Thessaloniki).
Day 8 - Departure.
