You will visit the protected forests of Fraktos, Stamna and Lepida and the unique species of Greek flora and fauna that live there.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive at the airport of Thessaloniki, where your guide will be waiting to transfer you to Kerkini lake at the traditional guesthouse we’ve chosen for you. Welcome dinner with local specialties.
Day 2: Jeep safari in Kerkini Lake. After breakfast we start our 4x4 journey heading to Mandraki village. We will see rare species of birds that live in the lake and if we are fortunate enough we can meet the water buffaloes that live near the lake. We continue to Lithotopos where we will see a dam built in 1932. Late in the afternoon we return to our guesthouse.
Day 3: Canoe in Kerkini lake. A unique experience with two seater canoes giving us the opportunity to observe from a short distance all species. We visit Ano Poroyia village for lunch and return to our hotel to enjoy the rest of the day in the lakes surroundings.
Day 4: Rafting in Aggitis river – visit Alistrati cave. Today we visit Krinides village and prepare for this day’s water activity in Aggitis river. In the afternoon, we head to Paranesti. On our way we will stop to Alistrati village, to visit an amazing cave with unique stalagmite and stalactite formations. Later on, we check in at our guesthouse in Paranesti village and dine at a local tavern.
Day 5: Explore the waterfalls of Dipotama, Lepida and Traxoni - visit Sotiros chapel. Early in the morning we depart to explore the area of Dipotama and the waterfalls of “Dipotama”, “Lepida”, “St Varvara” and “Traxoni”. Late at noon during our way back we visit the “Sotiros” chapel and enjoy the magnificent view of the valley.
Day 6: Natural history museum and the lakes of Platanovrisi and Thisaurou - Visit to Maara’s river cave. Today we visit the natural history museum at Paranesti. We head for Platanovrisi and Thisauros dams in order to see the 2 artificial lakes which gather Nestos river’s waters for hydro electric power supply. We continue to the unique river cave of Maara, one of the largest ones in the world and afterwards we visit the city of Drama for dinner.
Day 7: Jeep safari in Fraktos forest. Today we will visit the “Virgin forest” and the forest of "Fraktos". These forests were declared as preserved natural monuments since 1980.
Day 8: Return back to Thessaloniki and Macedonia airport for your flight back.
