Rafting and trekking three day escape:
The area contains some beautiful landscapes, with dramatic hills, stunning gorges and flowing rivers in combination with traditional stone paved villages. The village of Dimitsana is where we will be staying on this programme. Its charm lies in its cobbled streets and tottering houses that are set between the twin hill-sides that overlooks Lousios gorge. The village offers half a dozen churches an excellent Open Air Water Power Museum, and a delightful array of traditional taverns and local cafes.
Trip Summary:
Day 1 - Travel to Dimitsana. Following our instructions drive to the mountain village of Dimitsana (no more than 2,5 hours from Athens). Arrive at Dimitsana for your stay at the guesthouse we have reserved for you.
Day 2 - Trekking in Loussios Gorge. In the morning you will be met at your guesthouse by our local guide who will drive you to the starting point of today’s trekking. This trek offers a beautiful combination of history with nature. We will walk amongst trails of dense vegetation going parallel and criss-crossing the Lousios River. We visit monasteries that appear to be literally hanging from the cliffs and end the trek at the archaeological site of Ancient Gortys. This is one of the most stirring of all Greek sites as it is based along the rushing river known in ancient times as the Gortynios. A vehicle will take you back to the starting point where you will pick up your car.
Day 3 - Rafting. Upon our directions you will drive to our Trekking Hellas base that is located in a remote mountain village. Here in a village house you will meet our local guides who will prepare you for your rafting experience. The Loussios river is where Zeus used to bathe himself! In the spectacular densely vegetated gorge and in the river’s crystal clear waters, we invite you to enjoy rafting and discover the hidden natural paradise of the area. The descent is of 2nd degree of difficulty, starting from Lousios, continuing to Alfios River, and ending to the spectacular bridge of “Koukos”. After the descent you can drive back to Athens.
2 Days River Action:
This is a program for eco – nature lovers. We will spend two days in the rivers of Lousios and Alfeios and raft a total of 16 exciting kilometers. We will camp out by the riverside and enjoy numerous entertaining activities in the fertile valley of the area.
Trip Summary:
Day 1 - Arrive in our base in the village of Maratha and get ready for the first rafting descent from the bridge of Atsicholos to Koukos Bridge where we will camp out. After the rafting decent we will walk to the spectacular and well-hidden waterfall of Vrondos offering endless opportunities for water fun. After settling to our camp we will remember the tale of Robin Hood whilst competing in archery. Barbecue and overnight by the riverside.
Day 2 - Our day will begin with an impressive rappel of 35m in the bridge of Koukos. We continue our second rafting day in the gorge of Alfeios lasting for about two hours. Our day ends in our base where will enjoy lunch and review our eco adventure.
