Most of the trails end in golden sand beaches or typical white washed villages where we can visit and observe marble craftsmen and bamboo basket workshops or just relax and enjoy the Greek sun plunging into the Aegean Sea.
Trip Summary:
Day 1 - Departure for the island of Andros, afternoon Trek. In order to make full use of this day we will ask to meet our guide early in the morning in order to have enough time to drive down to the port of Rafina and to take the early boat for the island of Andros. The meeting point will be in front of the entrance of our Trekking Hellas office that is only a 2 minutes walk from Syntagma metro station. Our guide will be holding a board and will be wearing Trekking Hellas T-shirt. At a designated departure time the group will leave for the port of Rafina that is Athens smaller port. Here you will board the boat and set sail for the island of Andros (aprox. 3 ½ hours). Upon arrival in Andros you will be transferred to your guesthouse where you will be given a little time to change into your Trekking Shoes! For your first days Trek on this very special island. The trek starts in Gavrio where you will go by bus. The total trekking time is 2 ½ hours approximately and once you end you go back to the hotel. Overnight in guesthouse on BB basis, sharing a twin room.
Day 2 - Trekking in Andros. After an early breakfast in the morning, we take the bus to Messaria. This trek begins in the village of Messaria near a historic mansion of family Kairis. From here we descend to the valley of the Megalos Potamos (Big River), where we walk between farmyards and stables. Sometimes the path is paved and sometimes it becomes a dirt path. We quickly arrive at the river where there is a haunted bridge. According to legend a bridge was only considered as complete where the main constructors wife had been sacrificed and her ghost would then haunt the bridge. After the bridge the pathway winds into a steep slop. From here we walk towards the monastery and the village of Fallika. We divert for a while to the village where we meet a beautifuk farm, with a farmhouse and its private chapel. When we reach the monastery we are meeting at the entrance by a fountain. It is believed that the monastery is 1000years old it is famous for its Panayia Panachrandou which according to tradition was rendered by St. Luke. Today the monastery houses just two monks. After our visit of the monastery we return to Chora. Overnight in guesthouse on BB basis, sharing a twin room.
Day 3 - Depart to Tinos. After an early breakfast in the morning, by local bus we go to the village of Falatados, where our trekking starts. We head uphill to Exomburgo, to admire the stunning view of the Aegean. Continue onwards to the village of Koumaros, where we make a short break and try the traditional Greek coffee, before we continue to the village of Volax and Agapi, which is the finishing point of today’s trek. In the afternoon return back to our hotel.
Overnight in guesthouse in Tinos town, on BB basis, sharing a twin room.
Day 4 - Tinos Trekking. Today’s trek also starts from Falatados village and over the 2/3 part of the route is by the river, covered with plenty of Platans and Oak trees. During the trek we will see the old watermills on the north part of the flume. From Maganari spot, the path leads to Platy and the fertile Livada. Then we will follow the dirt road to the untouched beach of Livada where we may stop for a swim and picnic until we take the path back to Mirsini village, where we will pick-up the bus to transfer us back to our hotel. Overnight in the same guesthouse.
Day 5 - Check out of hotel and return to Athens. We check out of the hotel and return to Athens. The programme ends at the port of Rafina where you can take the public bus to return to the center of Athens.
